Terrified my dog will die. Need help

My dog was fine this morning. Had a leisurely walk around park and sit down for a coffee. Sun was out but it was cold. She is a hairy dog.
Got her home she had a snack and water. She started to lick her lips and was just not right. Called insurance vet and did checks they asked for and they said straight to vet.
Took her to vet and by now she has hypersalivation and pin point pupils.
Have left her with vet at 24/7 animal hospital.
I did not see her eat or drink anything. Not heatstroke.
They are running a urine toxicology screen and bloods.
I am terrified. She is so gorgeous and only 7.
Anything else need to be done or any suggestions?

Best wishes. You have done the right thing. While you wait can you contact any groups on social media who use the park - dog training/walking - to see if there have been any poisoning incidents? Call other vets in the area to see if there have been any other dogs brought in? Are there any meds/chocolates/raisins or even hot cross buns in the house she could have got into? The vet is already doing the tests, so hopefully you will have more info soon.

Sorry that your dog is poorly, you have done the right thing getting her straight to the vet, she is in the best place and it doesn’t sound as though her death is imminent, it could be something straightforward, this time last year my dog was collapsing, I thought she would die but she is snoozing beside me as I type! I know it’s incredibly worrying but she has age on her side and is in the care of the vet, hopefully they will get to the root of the problem and she will be back home with you soon.

So sorry you're going through this. Well done for getting her to the vet quickly. Sending good vibes your way.

It sounds like she's ingested something she shouldn't have - maybe drugs or something poisoned.

I know it's horrible but try not to worry - she's in the best place 💐

I agree with posting on local social media. To see if anyone else's dog might have similar symptoms.

Someone evil once left sausages in our park that had nails pushed into them.

Thanks everyone. She is still at vet as not passed urine for urine toxicology despite walks and IV fluids. Bloods are normal. Eating and drinking thanks to anti-nausea injection. Hypersalivation and pin point pupils have resolved. Also no-one on FB group has had the same. Fingers crossed x

Has she eaten discarded cannabis cigarette ends?

Flowerly · 09/04/2023 15:58

I hope that she continues to recover OP. You acted quickly and did the right thing by her. Everything crossed for you here.

Similar happened to our dog some years ago ( and funnily enough was also Easter weekend). Emergency vet though she had eaten/ ingested some kind of drug, most likely cannibas stubb . She was on a drip for a night but fine. It sounds like you've got her to the vet quickly op and hopefully she will recover in full.

She was discharged from vet yesterday after IV fluids and anti-nausea injection. Urine toxicology was negative and bloods normal. Unfortunately it took them around 18 hours to get a urine sample so maybe drug traces gone by then.
She was still not right yesterday but much more herself today.
Thank goodness for 24 hour vets. She became so ill so quickly I thought she would die.
She does not normally pick up non-food items to eat but who knows. Will be paranoid for a while but she loves her park walls...
