How to bring pup home

We are hopefully bringing a pup home in May. My mum will be with me in n the car. What’s the best way for the pup to travel home. Do I get a carrier for her or a box with some blankets and towels.

Washing basket so you can reach in and reassure filled with towels, so if they go to toilet you can remove the towel and a fresh ones underneath

have a blanket that smells of mum and have another one for when you get home just in case they ruin the first one on drive

keep calm and enjoy snuggles with your new pup

I’ve always just put them on a blanket on the lap of whoever is with me and they curled up and slept most of the way.

Ours was tiny so she was on my lap on a bit of vet bed whilst OH drove. 3 hours no stops. She was fine. She was sick a couple of times then slept.

I had a soft crate with vet bed in as vet bed stay dry if the pee, I was on my own, pup wailed for 5 minutes then slept until I got home just over an hour journey.

We bought one of the puppy car seats to use whilst it was little. It meant we could stroke her etc on way home.

legally they will need to be restrained eg in a crate or with a seat / seatbelt attached to harness

By law they need to be restrained by something - just being held on someone's lap isn't enough.

I would have them on the backseat in a carrier with someone, and then you can provide comfort and reassurance. Mine wore a puppy travel harness attached a seatbelt and then he sat on my lap on a blanket provided by the breeder.

He cried for about 10/15 minutes then settled down and slept the rest of the way!
