It’s okay for the odd pee accident at 20 weeks old isn’t it? I’m not going to be left with a delinquent dog who is forever peeing in the house with gay abandon (maybe catastrophising a little here!).

Pup had an accident just. I ignored the signals-I’m a bad puppy parent. She ran across the room afterwards and laid down and looked guilty (disclaimer-I have no idea why-she has NEVER been punished let alone for pee accidents). We have had probably 4 accidents in the last 5 weeks so it’s not a huge problem. I did what I’ve done every other time and took her straight outside.

Just checking I’m not missing anything and it’s okay at her age. She’s a small breed.

No sorry OP it's over...

No, seriously, accidents are just that, accidents, they happen sometimes, especially at such a young age. Don't worry, learn from it, keep doing what you're doing and you'll be just fine!

Make sure you clean where she's peed with something like 'Simple' to get rid of any lingering smell, otherwise she will go back there to pee again.

But yes, accidents can happen. You're not a bad puppy parent.

Some small breed can take a while to stop having accidents; I'm sure I've read somewhere that Chihuahuas for example, are particularly difficult to house train.

Your puppy will never pee outside again. You will have to fit her with nappies. Maybe a bucket.

Nahhh, it's fine. She's learning a new skill, there will be blips, don't worry about it. She's doing pretty good for her age and it will be just fine.

Yep, Sunpup was brilliant from 12 weeks.. nothing inside for weeks and then peed inside once at 19 weeks and then again once at 26 weeks. I guess it just happens..

20 weeks is still totally normal for some dogs to still be having accidents, and like you say, you ignored the signs. If it starts to happen more frequently worth checking for a UTI, but if it's a one-off don't worry at all. It could also be a hormone thing, but she's a bit young to be coming into season.

Toooldtoworry · 06/04/2023 06:46

My not so little pup peed and pooed in his crate night before last because I clean forgot to let him in the garden before bed. He's 11 months.

20 weeks is nothing! my girl couldn't be trusted until she was 7 months old and even then it wasn't 100% trust, but she is 9 years old and absolutely fine, so panic not.
