Do you pay your dog groomer in advance?

I am just wondering if my experience with a new groomer is normal. We moved recently from the South East to the North West, my previous groomer always took payment on the day. The new groomer asked for a £20 deposit and then messaged yesterday asking for payment in full no later than 48 hours before the dogs’ groom on Thursday. Is this unusual or just different depending on the area/groomer.

South east here. Mine is payment 24 hrs in advance if paying by bank transfer, or cash on the day. I always do advance as it's easier than getting the cash ready.

Pay on collection here either by cash or card. Have used the same place for years and it has always been the same. We are East Midlands.

North West. Always pay on collection. I have never heard of payment in advance, though I can understand why they might ask for a deposit if people fail to turn up.

Our Groomers are part of a national chain so we have a continuously rolling deposit, with the balance paid on collection. This may be because we’ve been using them for years though.

I pay using PayPal, usually just as we get home. Sometimes just before I leave to collect her if I remember! Groomer has never said this is a problem, but she knows I'm reliable

Deposit upon booking (completely reasonable as our dog needs a 2 hour slot) then balance on collection.

Thanks all, I spoke to them and they are happy for me to pay on the day. The system was set up during COVID and they don’t know how to stop the message asking for payment in advance being sent out.
