Sudden severe conjunctivitis?

Anyone had this with their dog?

Ddog was completely fine Ystd, had a lovely day, noticed he seemed to be winking a bit in the evening and then clearly was struggling with his eyes this morning.

Vet said no obvious scratches to the cornea and gave us antibiotic drops which he has had. He looks so sorry for himself though 😕 he is constantly wanting to rub his eyes and they look so sore and puffy.

I'll obviously take him back if there's no improvement but wondered if anyone else has had this?

He's a terrier mix.

It could be allergic conjunctivitis - so a reaction to something in the environment. It's spring so maybe a new pollen or grass or something?

Can that just start? He will be 4 this year and not had an issue before, no other allergies I know of.

He seemed better when he woke up this morning but they are really puffy again now 🙁

Yes, allergies can develop from nowhere unfortunately 😔

If the medication doesn't improve things it may be worth requesting an allergy test from your vet.

Thanks ill definitely mention it to the vet, will be a pain if it is an allergy though 🙁

My spaniel had a repeated eye infection, which dragged on from September to Easter, when he was two. Turned out he was allergic to deer!
