Meant to be getting a new pup in the morning and I'm not feeling it.

We've had various dogs over the years. Last one was a boxer that we adored. She died last summer and we were devastated.

I've been looking out for boxers since but the there's been none in any refuges and to buy one from a breeder is at least 1500€, which we can't really afford at the moment, but we might be able to next year.
A refuge I follow on FB posted during the week about Lab/Collie Cross puppies they're looking for homes for and we were approved to adopt one and are due to pick one up tomorrow.

Dd (7) is delighted. I was excited, but now DH and I are just a bit...meh.
I'm worried we're making a mistake, that we're going to regret not waiting for a boxer.
Shouldn't I be more excited? Am I doing potential new pup a disfavour? Am I being ridiculous?
I don't know what to do now. 😥😥😥

She refused completely to go to bed and has finally fallen asleep on the floor beside DH, so I'm off now too, in anticipation of an early morning involving wee, poo, and general carnage. 😅

What a cute puppy! Will be interesting to see what she looks like as she grows, there's quite a bit of variation in collies and labs. Congrats on your newest member of the family!

I couldn't sleep the night before we collected our pup two years ago. I even shed a few tears during the night. I felt I had allowed myself to be pushed into something I didn't want by DH and DC.

We'd never had a pup before (had a rescue) and I was convinced it would be awful. I have to say this board didn't help as there's an assumption puppies are hard work. I can honestly say my puppy was a dream and I loved him from the minute he settled in my arms on the way home.
