Ticks!

By Easter, tick season will be upon us once more.
Who’s using what this year?
My cocker is a water baby, and is in the woods and fields every day, so spot on and collars were useless. Finally a few years ago we started with Bravecto ( did the research and read all the scare stories ) and it’s a game changer for him. One tablet lasts over 4 months, and it’s seemingly instant death for the ticks as I check him every day and never find a live one.
I’m aware of other products like FrontPro and Nexgard, which do the same thing but are monthly.
Tablets certainly seem to be mainstream nowadays. My dog walker however goes with some garlic type sprays/supplements and an amber gem collar. No idea how successful that is.

Nexguard here!

I know a lot of people swear by CSJ Billy no mates but you would have to start it now as it takes 6 weeks to be fully effective.

BiteyShark · 19/03/2023 13:22

We have already had many ticks this year but we live in a Lyme disease high prevalence tick area.

Nexgard spectra is our answer to them 😁. Only today I was hosing the dog down in the bath after a walk and noticed a few in the bath which had fell off before they had the chance to attach.

MyGirlDaisy · 19/03/2023 13:23

Nexguard here too.

Seresto collar here. We had it on a springer in previous years and it seemed to work.

Bunnyhascovidnoteggs · 19/03/2023 14:14

Ddog is booked in for Bravecto..

Spanielsarepainless · 19/03/2023 15:22

My spaniel was a martyr to ticks but a Seresto collar got rid of the problem completely. Lab is on Bravecto though.

My friend (neighbour) found three on her dog last week she said this is the earliest she's ever found them. We have a lot of woods and deer here, we were hoping the very cold weather we've had here since Xmas and 3 lots of snow which for us is very unusual despite our location (clue is in the username) might have at the very least delayed the time when we get them if not killed lots off. I've been advised by the vet that we don't have a Lyme disease problem here so use Braveco but am interested in the Seresto collar.

Theoscargoesto · 21/03/2023 22:19

Bravecto here which DDog has tolerated well. As you say, one dose every 3 months and then in addition monthly worming. That regime seems to work for us on a £12 a month vet plan

Wavingnotdowning · 19/07/2023 17:42

Just bought Nexgard today - 3 tablets for £45, from the vet. Has anyone tried buying it online? Thanks

GuyFawkesDay · 19/07/2023 18:43

I get ours on the vets "dog club" so I pay £20 a month and it covers all flea/wormers, annual jabs, a checkup and I get free vet consultations too.

I think it's worth it because I own a spaniel who is always getting into scrapes

Wavingnotdowning · 19/07/2023 23:56

Thank you - I don't think ours does that x
