Insurance walking my friends dog

My friend has a cavalier and is going back to work part time. She asked if I’d like to walk it and I’d love to… I previously walked a dog through borrow my doggy until it got rehomed.
However borrow my doggy insures you as part of membership but this will just be a friendly arrangement. I’d like to get insurance in case anything happens but I’m not sure what to get as dog walking insurance seems aimed at dog walking businesses and I’m not! So not sure if that would invalidate the insurance.
Anyone know and has a link to an appropriate product?

If you’re not being paid for it then your home insurance policy may well cover it. What sort of scenario are you wanting covered? Public liability? Either way worth giving them a call if you can’t see anything relevant in your policy

What kind of insurance do you mean?

Your friends insurance should cover any injuries to the dog.
If you're referring to public liability you can get insurance through Dogs Trust for about £25 a year but I'm not sure if you can get it to cover someone else's dog.

Okay interesting. I guess public liability insurance as hers wouldn’t cover an accident I caused for example if it ran into a road and a car crashed avoiding it etc.

Some insurance policies include public liability but your friend would need to double check the small print.

I'd also check with Dogs' Trust as I'm not sure you can insure someone else's dog in that way - it would need to be in your friends name as it's her dog.

Yes I don’t think hers will cover me because I will be liable if walking her dog. And mine won’t cover me because it’s not my dog/property.

Normal pet insurance is for the pet, not the owner, there’s no reason it wouldn’t cover being walked by a friend.

It will cover you because it's for the pet, regardless of who's walking it.

Your problem will be finding public liability insurance to cover you.
