Hand stripping vs clipping

9 month old show cocker spaniel whose puppy coat is getting out of hand!! She's had a couple of tidy ups and nails etc, but I was hoping to get her clipped short. The groomer has asked if I want her hand stripped.

I don't even know what that means, whether I want it and whether she needs it! Can someone explain it to me please!

hand stripping is pulling the hairs out manually using tools. i'm familiar with this technique for terriers (not even sure if all terriers) but not for spaniels...
not all terriers tolerate it well but it is known to be better for the skin of terriers and maintaining their coat's color.
oh it's also more expensive.
i'd ask your breeder.

At that age I would hand strip. See how you get on. Once you start clipping it tends to change their coat (for the worse). But it largely depends on how mucky your pup is. If constantly rolling around in mud clipping will be easier.
