I'll be getting a puppy in the next two to three months. Can anyone recommend to me a good book on raising/training a puppy please?

I found The Happy Puppy by Pippa Mattinson absolutely invaluable. I referred to it constantly throughout the first year. Much clearer in structure than Easy Peasy Puppy Squeezy, which I read but didn't use again. I have had Labradors for over thirty years but things evolve and change in training and it's good to stay up to date. If you are getting a Lab, she also wrote The Labrador Handbook.

Thank you. I’ll have a look at that now. I’ve heard about the Easy Peary one.

I really liked Easy Peasy, I've found a lot of the things in there really useful

Pippa Mattinson has a great book on recall called Total recall. Well worth a look

I second the Happy Puppy book-it was our bible! Followed the toilet training advice to the letter and did not deviate, tough going but it pays off!

Okay - thank you, everyone. I now have some ideas for the kids for Mother's Day!!

Highly recommend Louse Glazebrooks book

Not a book recommendation, but have a look at Susan Garrett on YouTube and also her Shaped by Dog podcasts. She has some amazing ways of teaching through games, right from puppyhood. She has some paid for courses but there is loads and loads of free stuff.

There is also this and they have an amazing Facebook page run by proper behaviourists and trainers (not Joe Bloggs terrible outdated advice from down the pub). You can see all the questions people post and the behaviourists responses. There are also free guides on there on pretty much everything you’d need :)

Thank you for the further recommendations. I might be getting one or two of these for Mother’s Day 😁. The YouTube recommendations look brilliant. Thank you.

I'm over halfway through easy peasy and am not finding it as brilliant as I hoped. Some good tips for sure, but I have a feeling it's really aimed at those intending to use crates, as putting them in their crate or equivilant seems a key part of much of the training.

The Perfect Puppy by Gwen Bailey was my bible.
