Dog has growled at DH two nights in a row

4 year old Dobermann, currently in season.

She’s growled at DH twice in the past two nights. Yesterday she was sat up and he went to stroke her and she growled at him.

Tonight she was laid next to him and he stroked her back like he always does and she growled and air snapped.

Very out of character for her. Could it just be due to her blobbing? Getting a bit concerned now.

Cut and paste from google:
Aggression in female dogs during their heat is a common complaint. Drastic hormone changes can adversely affect a female dog's mood and can predispose to acts of aggression even if she has never been aggressive before. These hormone changes cause irritability, nervousness and can even cause pain during ovulation.

I would just give her lots of space for a bit and leave her alone unless she comes to you.

Yeah, this is pretty common with in season bitches.

Is there a reason she's not been spayed yet? She's at risk of pyometra if you continue to let her have seasons.

Get her spayed.
There's a herbal supplement called "stroppy bitch" by CSJ which can help too.

Mine did this before we got her spayed. She also had awful phantom pregnancies. I would get her done ASAP.

Why have you not got her spayed ?

MarshaMelrose · 13/03/2023 01:10

Get her spayed. We had a dog like this when I was young in the days when nothing was routinely spayed. She then started to have toys that she carried round like they were babies that she was very possessive about. Then that developed into just becoming more generally unpredictable. She had to be spayed eventually for pyometra which was a lot harder on her than if she'd be done as a young dog.
It's a kindness really to just get her neutered.

She has pms. She needs to be de-sexed.
