Antlers

My ddog is a chewing fiend - luckily only things provided for her.

Nothing lasts long.

She does like an antler. But they are so expensive and then the last 7cm or so ends up being wasted as it's too small for her to chew. The only solution so far is me holding it for her (which she likes) but I feel like a dog slave, get slobber on my hands and occasionally an accidental nip.

Has anyone found a way of allowing their dog to chew the ends? Or any alternatives?

Mine is also a keep chewer- luckily only of things he is given!
We've tried various things, (rawhide/yak bars/ Whimsie things) but always end up going back to antlers. They last long, are low odor and less slimy than other options.
Sorry that's probably not much help!

I buy XXL ones for about £20 from ace antlers. Much much bigger than the local pet shop ones, so last ages before they're just a stump.

I would take away the antler when it gets that small. I buy the biggest and the current one has lasted a long time for my dog. He really likes chewing on his nylabone as well, I got the extreme chewer white one and this has lasted a good few months, although he only chews it once or twice a day for about 20 minutes.

Crikey. Our pup is on my dogs old antler and that's been through a couple of foster dogs in the mean time. They last forever IME. All terriers so strong chewers.

She also likes Yak chews but they need to be swapped after a while as she keeps going and they're too expensive.

@Newpeep Did you know that you can microwave the end bit, so it puffs up and becomes crunchy for finishing off? Can’t link to the actual video, it’s a bit further down this page where it says ‘make your Yakers last even longer’

If you have a ball that you put treats in, like the ones from Pets at Home with the spikes, you can poke it through there. That's what we do.

Yes we do that. We've found the Yakers brand is much better than the other one (can't remember the name)

We found the opposite. Ada got through a large yaker in an evening, the petello ones last months

Camel scalp sticks (the big chunky ones) 🤢
lambs horns
buffalo horns

They last ages compared to split antlers for our pup

Thanks for all the suggestions. Lots to try

I left the last few cms of Sunpup's yak chew on the outside table to bring in for microwaving and a bloody magpie nicked it!

Tup horns seem to last forever. We’ve got 2 of them shared between 5 chewy dogs and they’re over a year old and still going strong.
