Car dog guard

I am using a temporary car, until I get another car in the summer. So just need a car guard for a few months. After which I'll get a crate for the new car. I have a stupid question. If I use a dog guard, for a large GSD, do I need to use a seat belt/harness set up? I don't think my dog would be happy with it really, but obviously don't want to break the law.
TIA for any answers

As long as the dog guard keeps your dog from distracting you or being thrown forward, it’s fine.

Rule 57. When in a vehicle make sure dogs or other animals are suitably restrained so they cannot distract you while you are driving or injure you, or themselves, if you stop quickly. A seat belt harness, pet carrier, dog cage or dog guard are ways of restraining animals in cars. Highway Code 27 Jul 2022

Yes, as posted above, any restraint or barrier that keeps the dog out of your way and not a danger to humans is fine in the eyes of the law.

The laws about dogs in cars are about human safety not dog safety.
