What's going on!?

My 13 year old has starting wandering at night, panting and generally being irritating! Pawing at my head, pottering about the bed. It's worse than having a baby.
He's absolutely fine during the day, loves his walks, eating and drinking/weeing and pooing well. His usual lovely, affectionate self.
But when I need sleep, he starts this weird behaviour. It happened a couple of times last year, but now it's happening maybe 3 nights a week. I'm shattered. I'm dreading going to bed because I have to be up for work and need my sleep.
Last night (at 3am) I tried shutting him in the kitchen with a bed made up for him but he scratched loudly at the door so I let him out again after about ten minutes.
Is he dementing?

Vet check, and discuss doggy dementia. Does he look like he’s got cateracts ?

Was going to say doggy dementia. We had our lad on some tablets, definitely check with the vet first.
