Barking at people walking past the house but if they arrive by car, not a peep

DDog is just over a year and luckily we don’t live where there is a high number of passing folk but I’ve noticed he only barks if the person is walking

For example the postman pulls up in his van and delivers a large parcel, DDog doesn’t react just stares out the window at him Postie then parks up and does his letter delivery walking past the house and the dog goes into a barking frenzy.

Neighbours walking by sets him off but if they or any visitors arrive by car then walk to their doors. Nothing.

Bin-men are fine probably because they are walking beside the bin wagon.

I get him away from the window and treat when he’s quiet but he can see the walking person usually before me.

Why are the car people ok but walkers not?

Lol your DDog is a golddigger.🤣

It's fascinated/distracted by cars but not keen on people.

Because dogs are weird probably. Could it be he's a bit territorial and has worked out people coming by on foot sometimes come up to the house and COME IN so he is giving you an INTRUDER ALERT. Whereas he knows bin men etc don't come in even if they walk around outside. I am pretty sure my dog is smart enough to make those kind of associations.

Alternatively he's just young, sometimes they get weird fears for a few days at that age. If you stay calm and as you do reinforce calm with treats it will calm down. My stupid adult dog is fine with visitors. The one thing that consistently freaks her out is seeing only part of a person - our back garden is v steep and if DH disappears down the steps at the bottom she barks because 'HE HAS LOST HIS LEGS HE HAS LOST HIS LEGS' and then calms down when he reappears magically whole again.

One of mine went crazy at the window cleaner if he was standing on the ground, but stopped barking the minute both feet were two rungs up the ladder!
