Getting a dog this week

I've wanted a dog for such a long time. I initially had my heart set on a chihuahua however I have saw an Italian greyhound during my searches and completely fell in love with him

I pick him up later in the week and I can't wait he's so shiny and soft
I feel like I've bought everything I need to but if there is anything anyone can think of that isn't on the puppy lists please let me know.
Also does anyone know are puppy training classes worth it (I've signed up to one locally already)
Anything specific about owning an Italian greyhound that won't be in the books 😁

Congratulations! They are lovely. Unfortunately I have 2 shiba inus so probably won't be most helpful. But you need to show photos

Be very careful as they break bones so easily. Focus should be on you while out and about.
Train a small dog to be as well behaved as you would expect from a large dog.

I have a whippet. Sighthounds are the best dogs ever ... But be very ready for their quirky ways. Quite frankly, they're nuts. Enjoy!

Iggy's are lovely but incredibly fragile - please be careful with the puppy zoomies and don't let her jump around on/off sofas, stairs or hard surfaces.

If you've never had a dog before then definitely go to classes - they're just as much about training you as they are about the dog. The KC "Good Citizen" scheme is really good if you can access it - you can work your way up from Bronze to Gold.

Good luck and don't forget photos! Grin

Another whippet owner here. They get cold very easily and hate being cold. You need jumpers and coats to keep them happy.

Oh I will make sure I puppy proof my house so he doesn't run into stuff.

Read Easy, Peasy, Puppy Squeazy and book in with a good local trainer. Also read Total Recall and start training heel position on Day 1 ready for going on walks. Sighthounds are high prey drive dogs so recall and stop whistle are essential.
