Hacking, runny nose, sneezing, spots

Dog has what looks like warts all over the bridge of her nose. She’s also got a very wet (dripping) nose. Sneezing a lot and now hacking as if something stuck in her throat,

will obviously make a vet appointment but any ideas in the meantime? We’re not using any new detergent or anything, no difference in food … nothing has changed

No idea but that sounds awful. Have you got a helpline with your pet insurance? They might be able to suggest something?

The cough sounds like kennel cough. Rest & keep away from other dogs.

If she's coughing she needs to stay home and away from other dogs as it sounds like it could be kennel cough.

They can get it even if they're vaccinated.

I didn't know that, although to be honest I've not really read up on vaccinations for DDogs.

Does it minimise symptoms?

No, not necessarily.

It's a bit like the flu vaccine in humans - we vaccinate against the most common but even then you can still pick it up and become very unwell.

It's the same with dogs. Some will be vaccinated, get it and be quite poorly - others are never vaccinated and never get it! Unfortunately it's really contagious so if dogs have symptoms they should stay home until they've been symptom free for a couple of weeks.
