Anyone had experience of them. I am having to rehome my dog through illness and they take peoples dogs if you are over 65. They sound good but are a long way from me and I cant get transport to them. They have said they would take her but Im now wondering about it all.

I have no direct experience but I am an ex vet nurse and have only ever heard positive things about the organisation. Best of luck OP.

RNBrie · 14/01/2023 14:34

They took a pet for an elderly friend of my parents years ago. I've been doing a monthly donation to them ever since.

If they are a long way from you is it worth looking for help closer to home?

Cariadz · 14/01/2023 14:39

If you are in the South East could you perhaps contact this organization.

www.nawt.org.uk

Also, if you are in the Yorkshire are then AgeUk run something similar to the Cinnamon Trust.

thereisonlyoneofme · 14/01/2023 14:40

I cant find asimilar organisation nearer home. They would probably home her in their sanctuary as she is 12 and doesnt do well at kennels. I thought I had found a home on a small livery yard of someone I know as she has no chase instinct at all they had chickens too, but after they had her for 2 weeks when I was in hospital last they found it too much,as she is too clingy!

Also, this link for MacMillan has quite a few links to organizations

You don’t mention the type of dog OP, but there’s a dog rescue I follow who quite often take dogs from families in your situation, it’s called black retriever cross or BRX - they are on facebook. They don’t only take on retrievers that just how they started I think.
If you don’t mind saying where about in the country are you( roughly) in case someone on here can help?

I know someone who fostered a dog long term for the cinammon trust , which basically means she kept him for the rest of his life and they paid his vet and boarding bills ( I’m not sure whether they contributed to his general upkeep ) . I do know that when she wanted to use a different home boarder that they had to be vetted by the trust so I do think they take looking after the dogs very seriously .

frostygarden · 14/01/2023 15:05

I've heard nice things about Cinammon Trust, though if you'd like to met/vet your dog's new owners, might be worth putting up a picture/note on a local Facebook group. One of my neighbours did that recently for the same reason as you (ill health and can't manage any more) and within days her lovely dog had a new forever home.

Wolfiefan · 14/01/2023 15:08

I was a dog Walker for the cinnamon trust. Could you cope if they could provide a dog Walker for you. Or they do the permanent foster. They are a brilliant charity.

Warspite · 14/01/2023 15:21

As @Wolfiefan has suggested, I have personal experience of the Cinnamon Trust.
My example is …
A family member who volunteered with the C Trust used to walk an elderly lady’s dog after the owner had a stroke and couldn’t exercise her dear companion any more. This worked well, all arranged via the C Trust and continued for over a year.

Eventually the lady died so my family member adopted the dog. This dear dog became the property of the Trust who paid all vet bills but my family were long term fosterers until the dear dog passed away too.

Cinnamon Trust is a lovely charity. We, as a family, loved the dog. We were all heartbroken when she passed away a year ago.

Fallulah · 14/01/2023 15:37

I’ve only got experience volunteering with them. Once for a very elderly couple and then for a lady who was having cancer treatment. The ladies in the office are lovely - it seems like an excellent charity. I’m sure they’ll see your pet is looked after.

Fallulah · 14/01/2023 15:40

Just to add, in my experience they try to find a local fosterer. I’ve sometimes had requests to help transport a dog, so I’m sure they could get her to where she needed to be.

thereisonlyoneofme · 14/01/2023 18:55

Im in Kent. I dont want her rehomed then rehomed again. They havent got many volunteers in this part of the country unfortunately. Im going to talk to Cinnamon Trust again, I dont want her to go but I dont want her left when something happens to me or Im too ill to look after her.

Theresonlyoneofme, have a look at the link to the RSPCA just a few pages above.

Wolfiefan · 14/01/2023 19:43

Oh OP it’s clear you want the best for her. The Cinnamon Trust will put out a request on FB and the like for volunteers in your area if you need help.

Cariadz · 14/01/2023 19:46

this one. It seems to be for those who’d like to keep their doggy with them and if something happens to the owner everything is already in place for the doggy to be collected and rehomed. Maybe you could get dog walkers in and sign up for this scheme also.

GetOffMyDoorJack · 14/01/2023 19:51

I’ve just signed up as a volunteer. I’m surprised there aren’t many volunteers in Kent because I’m in SE and there seem to be a lot here. I’ve yet to foster anyone but the charity have been very through in the vetting process. PM me if you want to know more!

We’re in Kent, though maybe not the same bit as you, my DD volunteered for them up until she left for Uni in September. They’re really very good, were lovely to deal with from her side, really nice people. She was a dog assessor and dog walking volunteer. Would you be able to manage if they had volunteers to walk your dog, take them to vet appointments etc, for you?

Changingplace · 14/01/2023 20:15

We long term fostered our old dog through Cinnamon Trust, his owner wasn’t able to walk him anymore.

He initially came to us as a short term foster as they didn’t want him to go into kennels and we fell in love with him and kept him.

The Cinnamon trust were amazing, they covered all his vets bills (we didn’t always take them up in this but a couple of times they were big bills and this really helped) they would’ve paid for his food had we needed it too.

They also have a network of volunteers and any time we needed anyone to have him overnight or if we were on holiday they’d arrange a home stay with another volunteer so he never had to go into kennels.

Ive since volunteered as a dog walker for them, and they’ve been a lovely charity to be involved with.

I hope they can help you OP, best of luck.

Do you mean they don’t have any volunteer dog walkers near you to support you? That’s a shame, I did dog walking through them for a lady who wanted to keep her little dog but could get out much, it’s definitely worth speaking to them again, best of luck, I know it must be a really hard decision.

purplepencilcase · 14/01/2023 20:18

Yes my friend has rehomed 2 or three cats over the years through them. From what she describes they are a brilliant charity. Such a lovely idea.

gonnabeok · 14/01/2023 20:36

I work for the Cinammon Trust as a dog walker. The staff are lovely. One of my colleagues has just agree to have a dog whose owner was very ill and both the dog and my colleague are very happy together.

Theoldwrinkley · 14/01/2023 20:54

The cinnamon Trust organised for a dog walker to help my Father-in-law when he became too frail to walk the dog. She was a lovely lady, who then took dog on full time when F-i-L went to a care home. I thought she/they were brilliant.
