Oh just leave it. They'll be fine. Massive overreactions on this thread, as usual.

We didn't know the dangers of chocolate when my childhood staffy are about 6 Easter eggs and a box of maltesers.. in one sitting... It didn't even give him the shits!

ErrolTheDragon · 13/01/2023 18:45

I had a 12 kg dachshund who ate a quarter of a milk chocolate Terry's orange, the vet assured us on the phone no treatment was required, and he was absolutely fine.

QueenSmartypants · 13/01/2023 18:45

Check with the vets. I'd guess your dog will be ok but you definitely need professional advice to confirm this.

whataboutsecondbreakfast · 13/01/2023 18:46

Based on your dogs' weight and the amount she's eaten, she should be absolutely fine. That's a tiny amount of chocolate, really.

2 triangles will be fine for a 15kg cockatoo op.

Floralnomad · 13/01/2023 18:47

If you can’t afford the vet I would just keep an eye on the dog and take her if she becomes unwell , the likelihood is , with that small amount , that she will be fine . Is the dog insured , if not I’d do that as a priority .

We didn't know the dangers of chocolate when my childhood staffy are about 6 Easter eggs and a box of maltesers.. in one sitting... It didn't even give him the shits!

Mine was a cocker spaniel & she are about 6-8 large eggs too. The non opposable thins stopped her removing the tinfoil, so she was pooping that for day & pooping SO much!

other than being annoyed about the situation, we didn't know we were supposed to worry!, so we didn't.

she used to get given grapes & raisins too (raisins/currants/sultanas in Muns fruit cake which she made most weekends)

I don't know if dogs have changed or just awareness??

we were lucky with the cats too, almost always had lillies!!

Meltinthemiddle · 13/01/2023 18:50

Ok vets have just said keep an eye on as it's milk chocolate and a small amount! Still slightly worried 😣. This is because my teenage son leaves food in the floor in his room so it's fair game according to the dog!

@DadANDPK raisins are either really really toxic or not at all. But you don’t know which applies to your dog.
Speaking from experience here btw 😂 bloody dog.

Nw22 · 13/01/2023 18:53

@Y7drama same for my childhood dog. He once ate an entire Easter egg and was fine.

Oh god.. memory unlocked and TMI...
same staffy, I was a bit of a knob as a child and my mum used to do me lunches and I used to hide them if I didnt eat them or feed them my dog. Well we had those little red boxes of raisins and I had about 6 boxes in my room, under my bed. My dog found them, ate them all, including the boxes.. when we got home from school/work we were met with liquid shit all over the kitchen. The only solid bits were hundreds of raisins 🙈

@PoorMegHopkins given the amount she ate, it obviously wasn't a problem fir her. She died of something completely unrelated.

miss my wee girl SO MUCH.. even so many years late!!

@Meltinthemiddle I've just done various online calculations & they all
agree with your vet!!

can you afford to get her some insurance??

Honestly, please try not to worry. It's a tiny amount of chocolate!

NewBootsAndRanty · 13/01/2023 18:57

I overheard my vet saying yesterday that he's seen a dog eat 20 raisins and be absolutely fine, and another die by eating just one.

Mileage clearly varies.

Nosleepforthismum · 13/01/2023 19:09

Aww OP, your dog will be fine. Mine is 14kg and one Christmas ate a whole giant toblerone plus an entire giant tub of haribo tangfastics including the foil and half the plastic tub. Few dodgy poos but apart from that just wandered around looking extremely pleased with herself. We learnt not to put edible gifts under the tree…

Spidey66 · 13/01/2023 19:10

We had a dog in the early 80s onwards, before we knew of the dangers of chocolate. We trained her using Cadburys Buttons!😮She used to go mad if left outside a shop, so i trained her by buying a Freddo bar whenever I took her in. If she misbehaved, I got it, if she behaved, she did.

One time my brother gave me a bid box of Thorntons on my birthday. I had a few then left the rest in my room while I was out celebrating. When I came back she'd scoffed the lot. She wasnt taken to the vets, we didnt even ask their advice, we didn't know it was dangerous. She lived for another 10 years!!!

Obviously this is anecdotal and I wouldn't feed my current dog dairy milk. We did a lot of things back then we wouldn't do now eg parents smoking near babies, putting honey on babies dummies, driving without seat belts etc. I just wanted to reassure you it may not necessarily be a death sentence,

Chesneyhawkes1 · 13/01/2023 19:11

Pretty sure your dog will be fine. My 7kg jrt stole and ate a whole mars bar when he was about 5. He's almost 17 now

I know it’s not good for them but my childhood first dog ate loads of chocolate (stole it at various times) and was fine. It was in the days before people knew it was bad. I’d just keep an eye on them and see if they seem ok.

This. Our childhood dog was given just about anything. Definitely chocolate by us 3 kids. It wasn't a known thing then.

A 15kg cockatoo would give me nightmares! Grin

It sounds like the dog is going to be ok, no wonder she’s pleased with herself, she’s got away with it!

userxx · 13/01/2023 19:20

Can't seeing it killing your dog, might have the shits though.

Not had Toblerone for years and now craving it.
