I posted this on AIBU but here might be better placed. We have a caravan with AC. Has anyone done this - he'd rather be with us but is it better to leave him at his kennels?
Totally in 2 minds.
The heat is my main concern. He is small and not high energy.

What will he get out of the holiday?

Presumably he'll be in an air conditioned caravan all day whilst you are off out and about as will be too hot to take him anywhere. That's an awful lot of travelling for a dog. Do you want to get up at 5 to walk him on holiday?

I'd use kennels and enjoy your holiday.

Leave him with a dog sitter . You'll spend your time managing his needs around the heat .

Are you in the UK travelling to Italy, if so have you considered the requirements. We took our dog to Ireland on the ferry a few years ago and she needed a pet password and a rabies vaccine. We were staying with family so was glad we took her but is was a hassle.

Also on the ferry we had the option of leaving her alone in the car or putting her into the kennel, we put her in the kennel so we could go and check on her during the crossing but she did find it a bit stressful. She was a rescue dog from Battersea and we knew she didn't cope well in kennels so this was to be expected.

I think given the heat I would be considering what the dog would get out of the holiday. Have have you checked whether you can leave the dog alone in the caravan, we have been to caravans in the UK where the dog can not be left unattended.

What will you do with him on days our? He can't just stay in the caravan so he'll to come with you.

I'd leave him at home.
