Dog had surgery today - so upset

Not really sure why I'm posting but just need to talk, too upset to talk in real life and I know that in reality my lovely little dog will be fine.

2 yo pug was fine yesterday, then the next minute his pupil was completely red, found out today its a detached retina and they couldn't save his eye, not sure how it happened, they are sending eye off for biopsy.

Just can't stop crying, he's the loveliest boy, we knew there were risks with pugs of course but I guess we thought it would never happen to him. Surgery went well but just so upset about it all.

I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. They hold a place in our hearts and I completely understand how you feel. I have heard so many dire things about pugs lately. Has precarious health always been the case with that type of dog? They are adorable.

Unfortunately they can have a lot of health issues and due to their protruding eyes are prone to getting injuries. We don't even know how he did it but the eye specialist said it doesn't take much so could have been something quite small.

He is the sweetest boy and obviously now we are extremely worried about the other eye, they did cosmetic surgery on the good eye to fix the eyelid and make it cover his eye more.

Bless his heart. I hope he has a speedy recovery. Such an awful thing to happen. your post shows how much you love him, and I’m sure he will be running around again soon 🤞🏻
All the best.

Thank you, the vet said it won't affect him at all once he's healed and that its always the owners that are more upset.

We love him so much, my husband is in a mess, he has got us both through the most difficult year and to start the new year like this is awful.

He’ll be fine btw, IME anyway - I had a dog years ago that had to have an eye out, he was basically unbothered as soon as he got over the anaesthetic, biggest issue was stopping him getting annoyed that he was supposed to be resting.

and it caused him no issues at all.

PugInTheHouse · 06/01/2023 21:09

Thank you. Yes definitely getting him to rest will be tricky, he is having a nice sleep at the moment.

As you can see by my user name, am also a pugmum. Am so sorry about your dog. Eye injury is common, one of mine had an ulcer ( healed).
They seem to get on fine with one eye, but I understand how you feel. There is something about pugs that just melt your heart. My first boy was a rescue and we didn't mean to get a pug, long story, but once we had one, we had to get another

Hugs to you all xxx

Sorry to read this @PugInTheHouse , we were on the puppy threads together.

Sending a big hug and get well soon to pugpup Flowers

PugInTheHouse · 06/01/2023 21:25

Yes @Pugdogmom they are just the loveliest, we would definitely get a rescue pug when we don't have our brood (another dog plus 2 cats)

Hi @GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat thank you, hopefully he will be fine once it's all healed.
