My dog suddenly stinks horrendous!

I thought my dog smelt funny yesterday but wasn’t too concerned. Sitting next to her on the sofa tonight and there was this overwhelming horrendous smell, I realised it was coming from her and everywhere she’s been sat. I can’t even describe the smell, absolutely vile, like a mixture of fish and metal

she’s also very quiet which isn’t like her, she’s slept all afternoon and evening when normally she’s bouncing off the walls until bedtime.

What on earth is that smell?!

Sounds like her anal glands need emptying.

Has she been neutered? If not then may be coming into season.

My Gsd several years ago had this, it was dismissed as an anal gland infection and only when several weeks of antibiotics failed to help did we find out he had a very aggressive cancer.

Another one for anal glands, they stink.

Another thought though, has she been spayed? If not has she has a season recently? Another concern of mine would be Pyometra, especially if she's acting off.

I do agree that it's probably anal glands. My bitch in season smells really odd for the first week, exactly as the OP has described, a combo of slight fishy odour and metal.

She needs to be checked for infection, sometimes older female dogs get an infection in the womb which smells horrendous

Fish coins? Anal glands. They need emptying and then diet change to help your dog empty them naturally.
