Dog jumper - yes or no?

I have a small shaggy terrier type. I currently have the heating off during the day and wonder whether I should put a jumper on him. I was always told that this should be avoided as it prevents the dog from regulating its own temperature; however, as I am currently wearing an Oodie around the house, this seems unreasonable.

We have about 6 dogs of various breeds, they have never had a jumper! It is currently 14 degrees in the house and they are fine. Unless they are visibly cold and have a sofa or bed to sleep on I wouldn't worry.

Does he seem cold? Tightly curled up, burying himself under blankets? If not, I wouldn't worry. My lurcher has a jumper on in the day, but without one he would be fully miserable and complaining about it

Mine does but she’s old and she shivers

Michaelmonstera · 03/01/2023 12:27

@CMOTDibbler He is currently curled right up next to me so is warm. I am worried about when I go out and he can’t snuggle up. He has various beds dotted round the house.

Wouldn't leave one on in house. My terriers prefer the beds where they go under the cover, so like a pillowcase and they go in and make a nest, I know what you mean though, mine lie almost in the fire and are still not happy

I have a smooth coated, very little hair on her tummy terrier. She is convinced it is freezing and is under the duvet cuddling up with one of the DC despite having a jumper on.

She very much feels the cold, freezing ears and shivering.

Michaelmonstera · 03/01/2023 12:43

@spidereggs We have a cave type dog bed but that has been appropriated by the cat so he doesn’t get a look in. She would happily share but I think he would rather freeze

If he really is cold he will squish in with the cat 🤣
