Fireworks already!

I was expecting fireworks at midnight, but poor dog is already freaked out as people are already seeing them off and I hadn't got him settled with music!

Now he's already freaked out which is going to make midnight a nightmare!

Grr

I think it is absurd before midnight. It ruins the poignant feeling at midnight when you’ve been hearing fireworks since 10pm. Honestly some people have nothing between the ears!!

TokyoSushi · 31/12/2022 18:50

Same here! 🙄

Abraxan · 31/12/2022 18:57

When done early in the evening It's usually because there are small children having an 'early new years Eve' ime.

It's fairly normal locally to have some fireworks in and off in the evening of NYE and then the big events at midnight.

Annoying if you have anxious pets I can imagine though.

Yep just had some here, both dogs were out in the garden at the time and DDog1 is now a quivering mess hiding under the Xmas tree.

SillyBub · 31/12/2022 19:00

Ditto. He's panting and shaking like crazy already and the radio is on full blast. No chance of him going out for a wee so will have a puddle to clear up somewhere tomorrow morning. And no chance of me going to bed until god knows what time in the morning. Sigh.

BiteyShark · 31/12/2022 19:00

Fortunately the howling wind making every thing rattle and creek is masking the fireworks in the distance.

NoSquirrels · 31/12/2022 19:02

Same here. I had in fact dosed my dog up with the good drugs half an hour earlier but bloody 6pm didn’t give much chance for them to work and she was trembling and scared. Poor pup.

SOWK · 31/12/2022 19:02

I have no problem with fireworks at midnight, it’s just a bit frustrating if there is going to be fireworks at random any time between now and 1am.

SOWK · 31/12/2022 19:02

What are the drugs @NoSquirrels ?

ChristineCagney11 · 31/12/2022 19:06

Absolutely hate the bloody things. Should be at organized advertised events only. Members of public only allowed sparklers. Don't care how draconian that sounds.

Exactly! You can prep for midnight, but starting at 6 is unexpected!

They started about an hour ago here, which is quite unusual as generally we don’t get many.
DDog is not worried about fireworks generally but these are causing big bangs which sound like knocks on the window, so he thinks we have visitors.
They are also at frustratingly long intervals apart so we keep thinking they have stopped.
I expected fireworks this evening, although assumed they would be later.
We are all ok with them, have no special needs etc, but I feel very nostalgic towards the fireworks of my youth. In those days fireworks were pretty, and the odd one made a noise. Now it all seems to be the bigger the bang the better.

BiteyShark · 02/01/2023 17:58

Wonderful. Someone is letting off fireworks tonight.

I have a sick dog back from the OOO vets and trying to work out whether we need to take him back. So now I don't know if he's still in pain or terrified of the fireworks or both Angry
