Fussy dog

I have a small dog who has always been fussy about his food. We tried many different brands over the years but finally found one he likes and it's been discontinued.

We bought some bags on sale when it was discontinued and we're coming to the end and can't find anything similar. I was in pets at home feeling all the bags today to see how big their biscuits are because that seems to be the main issue for him. We've bought the smallest ones and they're still way too big. I have attached a photo of the old food for size.

TLDR: Does anyone know of a dry dog food with really small biscuits?

I've a fussy dog. Which brand has been discontinued? Ella's kitchen or Harrington's is okay.

wainwrights have a small breed option
ill try and take a pic and upload

I'd write down what the breakdown of protein % etc is on his current feed and see if there's a puppy food with similar amounts, if you look at the better quality grain free types there shouldn't be much difference but the cheaper well known brands will be too high in protein.

Change the routine. Change the bowl. Change the place his bowl goes. We jigged things up and ddog stopped similar antics. Fussy? Bloody game player!!

Try food for small breeds- concept for life biscuits are small, I think we’ve had small
adult, and they also do mini.

breed specific is usually the right size- we have royal canin yorkshire terrier which he likes.

mine likes cat dry food as well which is the right size…

It was wainwrights small breed duck and rice that he would eat and I can't see they do since they changed their branding/packaging.

We went for their new duck superfood but he won't eat it unless you break the biscuits up and I'm not doing that for the next however many years

Science plan for small breeds has very small kibble, no guarantee your dog will like the flavour though!

Tropicaliyes · 31/12/2022 18:51

Mine is fussy with dog food but absolutely not fussy when it comes to food! We have gone through so many brands of foods it’s unreal and finally settled on Wolf of Wilderness from Zooplus. He doesn’t really care for the kibble size, however we have had a few different ones now and the bigger the better for him. They have one for puppies/junior which is small, they have a “moist” biscuit which I hate the smell of (but I’m also pregnant), then the one he has now reminds me of mini boulders and I just found one that is called “mini kibble” which I guess is for the likes of your dog.

Would he prefer wet food ? Maybe if with a bit of cat biscuits they are tiny

Teamonkey123 · 31/12/2022 19:00

I use Waitrose own brand kibble, admittedly it's for puppies as my Westie isn't yet a year old and it's tiny!

FarFlungFlamingo · 31/12/2022 19:37

Fish4dogs and the small bags of essentials both have small kibbles. I think they're both online only though.

Polkadotties · 31/12/2022 19:54

My puppy is on skinners puppy food and that’s small. Don’t know if the adult food is bigger

ShouldIknowthisalready · 31/12/2022 20:01

Barking heads do a small breed duck kibble (but i think it is very expensive)

Bumblesaurus · 31/12/2022 20:12

Burns do a small breed duck based kibble. Reasonably priced, they will send you a sample if you ask on the webcast.

Wainwrights small breed adult. Just purchased. Smallest I've seen...

JesusHeKnowsMe · 09/01/2023 16:31

My small female Cavapoo has ALWAYS been a fussy twat with kibble. I switched to raw diet for a bit but it eventually gave me the ick! Switched to Butternut Box and have never looked back. It is expensive tho, around £80 a month but that does include all treats.

She will ALWAYS want/prefer what we are having but it's not always suitable for her and I refuse to cook separately for her.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 10/01/2023 22:47

My dogs really fussy and I have recently discovered Jollies own brand dog biscuits. It's a high meat content and my dog really likes it plus his stomach has been loads better on it.

We get this one or the venison one.
