My girl (3.5 yrs old) has never had a problem before.
Yesterday when we went for our afternoon walk, she had a poo, but squatted oddly and whimpered when she went. Afterwards at home dh, suddenly notice blood on her bottom (she's double coated and VERY fluffy so you don;t get to see her anus!) and when we looked she obviously had something wrong.
So off to the emergency vet on Xmas evening (££££) where the vet said she had an abscess, and prescribed antibiotics and anti inflammatories and we are to make a review appointment when the regular vets opens later this week.
She generally has decent reasonably solid poos, unless she has managed to snaffle the cat's food, no change in diet. Is there anything we can do to prevent this happening again? She'd never needed her anal gland expressing , she's never scooted on the carpet or shown any sign of a problem.. is there anything we have done wrong?
She's feeling pretty sorry for herself but the painkillers must be helping as she's not licking too much.
