My head is scrambled looking at the best insurance policy for my pup. Can anyone recommend a company?

My puppy is insured with Waggel, I've been impressed so far. It's very simple to deal with a claim, I had a payment sent the day after I filled in the online form.

I am with Animal Friends but not claimed so don’t know how good that it. My mum uses Petplan and wouldn’t change, they pay the vet directly

I can thoroughly recommend kennel club insurance, they paid out over 25k for my dog over three years who needed several heart surgeries. They are not the cheapest, but the premium doesn't tend to go up a huge amount year on year. Some of the cheaper quotes will go up massively each year. Make sure you get lifetime cover which means that you will get the full amount each year, also try to get at least 7k cover as vet bills can be terrifyingly expensive, even go for 15k cover if you can stretch to it. My other dog is insured with Many Pets, also a very good company, fortunately not had to claim with them yet. Enjoy your new pup.

With Tesco for one pup. Made numerous claims for the same condition - examinations, medication, lab tests. I pay the vet directly and am reimbursed into my account, usually within a day or two of submitting the receipts online. The premium hasn't gone up much, now on our 3rd renewal, and I think they've actually reimbursed more than we've paid in premiums.

Also have 2 pups with ManyPets, but thankfully had no claims in the 2 years. Premium actually gone down on recent renewal for the 3rd year.

Thanks, couple of mentions for Many Pets, will go back and look at them.

I was with Waggel - two claims, super fast payment. I was really impressed. I then asked to increase my cover but they couldn't do that so I changed to Many Pets. Made a claim and had to chase after 6 weeks. Once I had spoken to them on the phone, it all moved fairly quickly but definitely a worse experience than Waggel. I think Many Pets is either a great experience or a bad one. I don't think I will renew with them because it was all a bit stressful.

tizwozliz · 21/12/2022 19:05

One thing to be aware of with many pets is how the excess works. You pay once per year, irrespective of the number of times you claim. Some other policies you pay the excess per condition which could leave you quite a bit worse off if you have to make lots of separate claims.

We've claimed once with them, claimed at around 4pm and had the money by 9pm. Our increase after the first year was about 1.50 iirc

iamme21 · 21/12/2022 19:10

The once a year excess sounds good!

We've had three dogs insured with Petplan and always found them no nonsense ,dealt directly with our Vets . I think the monthly premiums do tend to be a bit more expensive (we had whole life plans) . But really when my dogs have been ill I don't want fuss and grief from the Insurer . Never had them quibble over payment .

beeswa · 23/12/2022 05:37

I'm with many pets had no problem claiming . I know two people who went with animal friends and have said claiming back from them is absolute nightmare

dolor · 23/12/2022 05:52

Many Pets.

WaggyWoof · 23/12/2022 12:06

I don’t recommend Many Pets. Increase of £120 in annual premium. Dog is only 2 years old and no claims so far.

Toomanysleepycats · 23/12/2022 12:32

Many pets and co-op insurance are down on Which as Best Buys.

Theonewheretherewas4 · 23/12/2022 12:40

Another with animal friends here, not claimed yet 🤞🏼And premium hasn’t gone up after first year

Spanielsarepainless · 24/12/2022 16:55

Many Pets . We have £15k of cover.

Wanderingoff · 24/12/2022 17:00

Pet plan are excellent

Leonberger · 24/12/2022 17:18

Many pets trebled our premiums after the first year.

Petplan is more expensive but the rises have been gradual.

I’ve also got one with Agria which is the kennel club but cheaper I believe. So far no problems.
