I'm totally freaking out. DH gone to emergency vets. He's a spaniel/ Jack Russel cross. Pretty small. Reckon there was circa 30 raisins in it.... Sad

Try not to worry. My dog did the same his first Christmas (10pm Christmas Eve!)! An expensive trip to the vet, where they pumped his stomach and he was completely fine. I’m sure your pup will fine x

Ostryga · 04/12/2022 18:43

Bless you! Likelihood is they’ll give him something to make him sick, maybe some fluids and he’ll be 100% fine if not a bit pissed off.

If it’s any help my old spaniel once ate 7 large Easter eggs when he broke into the cupboard and he was completely fine after puking it up.

Hope you’re ok and try not to worry too much x

bellalou1234 · 04/12/2022 18:43

I would ring emergency vet or helpline. He might an injection to induce sick. My young dog ate a full pack of extra sugar free gum, which is really dangerous due to the the sweatner

IntentionalError · 04/12/2022 18:49

Ring the out of hours vet immediately. Do not wait until the morning. She will tell you to go to the surgery immediately and she will give him an injection which will make him vomit very quickly. If this is done soon enough, the dog will be fine & suffer no ill effects.

Good luck.

Why can people not even be bothered to read the OP 🤦‍♀️

I hope he's ok!

NooNakedJacuzziness · 04/12/2022 18:51

Puppy is already en route to emergency vet

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 04/12/2022 18:54

Hoping he is OK. My dog ate one once (adult but small breed) and was fine.

ChocChipOwl · 04/12/2022 18:54

People just can't be arsed to actually read something

He will likely be absolutely fine OP! Try not to worry

ChatterMonkey · 04/12/2022 18:54

Op's post is only 25 words long and some people still cant be bothered to read it properly...!

I hope the puppy is ok op!

bellalou1234 · 04/12/2022 18:55

Doh I'm sure he'll be fine once they induce sickness

whowhatwerewhy · 04/12/2022 18:57

Try not to worry. Vet will make him sick . Mine was sent home with liquid charcoal that he had for a few days .
Apart from being very sorry for himself he was fine .
My son who should of known better than to leave a malt loaf where dog could get it was threatened with the bill .

This 👆🙄

olympicsrock · 04/12/2022 19:02

Our golden retriever puppy got at the mince pies his first Christmas. He ate 22.5 large mince pies. Lay on his back looking very apologetic that he couldn’t finish all 24. No ill effects at all.
hope your puppy is ok op.

Just for future reference- all those saying “my dog did it and was fine”

the effects of grapes and raisins are not dose dependent, and the toxic mechanism is unknown.

sometimes a dog can eat a lot, sometimes a Great Dane has one grape and suffers renal failure.

you can’t predict which dogs will go into renal failure, from what dose.

so dogs should always be seen. If you are one of the unlucky ones by the time you see symptoms of the kidneys packing in it’s too late for treatment.

whowhatwerewhy · 04/12/2022 19:06

@bellac11
Yes it was revolting. Everything was black , DDog was fed outside in the end .
One good thing DDog ate it no problem.
But then DDog eats everything !!

holierthanthou73 · 04/12/2022 19:07

I remember when our Rough Collie (think Lassie) ate some of our crayons, technicolour poo a few hours later and lived to tell the tale no after effects, he was proper hardcore.

I don't think anyone is suggesting vet treatment shouldn't be sought. The OP's pup is already at the vet so this advice would be redundant - people are just trying to reassure the OP with their own dogs' experiences.

PestorPeston · 04/12/2022 19:08

The problem is that dogs have such different sensitivity to grape products. Some can eat 22.5 mince pies no problem and other have organ failure after a couple of grapes. Most dogs are fine after the vet has made them puke.

Good luck @LimeBasiandlMandarin , statistically he will be fine because you are an amazing responsive owner. Flip side of the coin - why do any of us buy dogs, they are more stress that children because you can never reason with them.

CharlotteStreet · 04/12/2022 19:08

If you want some reassurance, our dog once went on a midnight mince pie raid. We had four boxes of six and he ate three of them. That's three boxes. That's EIGHTEEN mince pies. Didn't go to the vet as we didn't know about the raisin thing back then. He was right as rain. Wasn't even sick.

(Labrador obviously).

Hope your pup is fine 🙂

Sadly, not the same at all.

LimeBasiandlMandarin · 04/12/2022 19:11

He ate roughly 30 (I counted how many were in another one we had left) vet counted 29 on first induced puke so good they are mostly coming out

OP posts:
AriettyHomily · 04/12/2022 19:12

I hope he's ok but how big was the mince pie to have 30 raisins in?!

We used to give ddogs their medication in grapes many years ago 🤦🏻‍♀️

CharlotteStreet · 04/12/2022 19:14

Took so long to type my comment, I realise it has been usurped by the 22.5 mince pies and more importantly some obviously much more sensible comments than mine.

Onions are also a problem for dogs apparently.
