Update on prev thread about my dog in heart failure. Not good news.

Our beloved Gracie crossed the rainbow bridge this morning.
She had heart failure and then last week we found out that she was also in renal failure. She went downhill fast and we made the decision that was best for her.
Her passing was incredibly peaceful and I held her right through it. She snuggled into me in my arms (which was unheard of before she was ill) and fell asleep for the last time.
We are all absolutely heartbroken to lose our sweet girl but we are at peace that the choice was right for her.
We will miss her so much.

I’m so sorry for your loss. It sounds like you gave her a wonderful life, look after yourself during the next few days. I lost my boy to heart failure in April so I know how you feel.

PoorlyPooch · 23/11/2022 14:53

@WelcomeEverythingIsFine it's really hard isn't it?
I've had a feeling of dread lodged in my chest for the past two weeks which has gone now.
I'm in tears again now and it's like someone is flicking a light switch on and off. I was cleaning out where her bed was and a pile of fur moved and set me off. My teenage dd's stayed home today and have been in a cleaning frenzy in their rooms to distract themselves but keep coming for hugs.
Ds is only 7 so doesn't know yet. I'm dreading having to tell him. Dh is going to finish work a bit earlier so we can have tea together and chat if they need to.
We all feel relieved that she's no longer suffering but she's left a huge hole in our lives.
Un-mn hugs to you. X

Trulyweird1 · 23/11/2022 14:57

Aw she was a beautiful girl, and that look she’s giving your DD - total love all round.

so sorry for your loss. They take a bit of your heart with them, don’t they. 💐 for you.

WelcomeEverythingIsFine · 23/11/2022 15:01

It is, I got up every morning for a week after he died and let an imaginary dog out into the garden whilst crying my eyes out! He was only 7 months old and had been born with a heart condition. What a beautiful girl. Hope it brings you all some comfort to be together this evening, look after each other and sending hugs x

Sunflowers765 · 23/11/2022 16:19

Gracie looks just like my beautiful girl we lost in May. It gave me comfort that she slipped away in my arms and I hope this will comfort you that you were there for her to the end. I'm crying typing this for my lovely girl and your beautiful Gracie too. FlowersFlowers

Thank you all. I went to Chuck some chicken into her bowl and broke down in the kitchen. I've 'seen' her twice already 🙈I know it's just because my brain is looking for her.
I'm sorry to upset you pp on the way home from the vets there were four beagles being walked 😔

Rip gracie you good, good girl.

She will be waiting for her family in doggy heaven. She's at peace now. Hugs to you all.

Your lovely Gracie looks so like our wonderful Rosie who left us suddenly almost a year ago because of a fast growing pancreatic tumour.

There is still days I expect to see her waiting when I come down in the morning, she is much missed and always loved. Sending you so much sympathy as you grieve your girl.

I told our 7 year old when we got in from school.
Told him we took her to the vets and she died but didn't go into detail.
Tonight at tea time he asked a couple of questions out of the blue about her bed and bowl. I explained that we were going to keep it until we were ready and then donate it to dogs that didn't have anything.
Then a half hour after bed time he comes down all upset and says he keeps thinking about her at the vets. I explained that I never left her side and that I was cuddling her, that our vet is lovely and he can come and meet him when the cat has her vaccines.
He's cried tonight. He doesn't like showing his emotions. He's drifting off now with his noise machine on but I think he may end up in with us tonight. Dh is out at 4am and away overnight so I may have an octopus child in bed with me tomorrow night.
So hard to have to manage everyone's feelings when you're a soggy mess

So sorry for your loss op.. We lost our ddog in 2020.. I thought I had done a good job of telling ds 6. Until about 2 months later he asked could ddog come home from the vets yet... Felt guilt all over again... Hope your dd is coping better op.

FastFood · 23/11/2022 22:54

That so sad. Poor little one. They just process it differently don't they?
After hearing about death advice when a friends fil died in front of her dc years ago I was very careful to say that she has died. Very clear words that made my daughters wince but it felt like I needed to avoid any euphemisms with him.
He's had a cry this morning. Hopefully he has a good day. He hates being seen upset and gets angry about it. We had a good talk about his feelings last night. Dh used the box, ball and button thing to explain grief

I'm incredibly sad tonight. I miss her so much. The silence is unbearable despite the fact I bemoaned her snoring for 8 years.
