Best place to buy a family fully trained dog?

Hi, can anyone recommend where we can buy a fully trained family dog from in the South uk? Ideally a year plus, rescue centres don't really have any suitable for a busy household with young kids. Seen a couple of sites but hard to know who you're buying from! We also need to consider the breed as one of our children have eczema, controlled asthma so would like to find someone who knows all about the breeds suitable etc. Thanks

If you’re too busy to train your dog you’re too busy to look after one. And when you have young children it is absolutely not the time in life to become a first time dog owner.

Helenloveslee4eva · 20/11/2022 15:02

I think you are asking an impossible question.
“ training a dog “ is as much about training the human and bonding the two.

my dog is great. I wouldn’t for a minute expect him to recall to you - he wouldn’t even approach a kind lady with dog treats when he got himself lost ( good boy , appropriate stranger danger awareness 😂).

SarahSissions · 20/11/2022 15:03

I know of people who sell trained dogs, but they are usually working dogs rather than family pets.

i would also want to have your children heavily exposed to dogs prior to you making a decision to get a dog to see whether their medical conditions are manageable.

Mindymomo · 20/11/2022 15:04

In what way fully trained eg toilet trained, leash trained. You will have to do some more work looking into getting a dog and which breeds suit your family.

megletthesecond · 20/11/2022 15:05

I don't think this is a thing. If you don't have time to train, are busy and have young kids then don't get a dog.

CaptainMyCaptain · 20/11/2022 15:05

You have to train the dog yourself to suit your family and bond with you all. If you can't be bothered to do this don't get a dog.

HappyHamsters · 20/11/2022 15:05

Whats a fully trained dog? You could try a retired service or police dog.

TrentCrimm · 20/11/2022 15:05

They don't do them 'oven ready' I'm afraid.

Exactly. The fact that you even think you can get such a thing, shows you aren’t ready for a dog.

TLIMSISNW · 20/11/2022 15:07

I don’t think it sounds like you’re in the right position to be buying a dog right now.

Maybe reconsider when you have more time.

Greytea · 20/11/2022 15:08

Obviously, there’s no such thing. You can’t be serious.

GhostCastle · 20/11/2022 15:11

You can’t be serious. If you are, don’t buy a dog. Buy a giant stuffed toy.

devildeepbluesea · 20/11/2022 15:13

What a bizarre thing to expect.

I really don’t think a dog is for you OP.

Asdf12345 · 20/11/2022 15:13

Gun dogs are very often sold at various levels of training. They may not be used to living inside though if you want an indoor dog.

MajesticWhine · 20/11/2022 15:14

I do know someone who wanted an adult, ready-trained dog and they bought one from a breeder. Very sensible nice dog. But it's not something I've heard of too often.
It would make sense to spend some time around dogs and see if your eczema/ asthma DC is ok with them. Because it's possible they have allergies too. Some dogs are much more triggering of allergies than others.

Wherediditallgo · 20/11/2022 15:17

Training isn’t something you do once and it’s done. It needs reinforcing each day.

Dingalingo · 20/11/2022 15:18

To the pp who said it doesn’t exist/no such thing it definitely does and I know a family who bought a trained Labrador - not to use as a gun dog, for a family pet. So they do exist (and sorry OP I’m not sure where exactly they got it but they live SW) and it cost a fortune!

Dingalingo · 20/11/2022 15:19

The more I think about it I think they may be army/police puppies who don’t pass the final exam to actually become a working dog, but are obviously much better trained than a normal family pet.

Suzi888 · 20/11/2022 15:21

Yes you can buy a fully trained dog, how much do you want to pay ? They will set you back a considerable amount.

I’ve looked in to this before and it was around £20k, it was a trained protection and family dog though.

If you just want a house trained dog that knows basic commands why not contact a rescue.

Brandymakesmerandy · 20/11/2022 15:21

Did you look around orphanages to get your fully trained children 🤷‍♀️.

Cluelessdiyer · 20/11/2022 15:23

A dog is not for you OP

Suzi888 · 20/11/2022 15:23

Total k9 are based in England. I’m not sure you will get one that won’t set off allergies though.

I expressed it badly - for a family that is full on busy with young children and no time to train a dog, and rescues have turned them down, and one child has allergies etc - that tells you something - they’re not ready for such a mythical perfect dog -it doesn’t exist. I actually thought it must be a joke post.

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 20/11/2022 15:25

A guide dog that hasn’t passed the final stage training would be pretty well trained but probably not suitable with allergies in the mix.

ButterflyLeg · 20/11/2022 15:25

Oh lord please don't get a dog.
