Skinned paw pad

My dog has skinned a pad on her paw...skin is off and instead of black pad skin is now pink. Been using leuicillan and a cone to avoid licking. She will not wear a boot on it so walking is out of the question. Anyone know how long this is likely to take to heal?

Mine has had many paw pad injuries and whether treated at home or bandaged by the vet it has taken over 2 weeks, more like three for it to be completely healed.

Sorry should have said, usually around 2 weeks we can go for gentle walks but it's typically around 3 weeks he can run about in the forest as it's then completely healed.

@BiteyShark that's a long process...how do you keep it protected whilst it's healing? It's a back paw so really difficult to get those boot things on, not that she'd wear it anyway!

Buy hibiscrub. It helps stop infection. You can get it from boots. I use it for my dog. Hope they recover soon.

@KendrickLamaze I have Leucillan which came recommended for the same thing but it's non sting 👍

When we have had vet intervention a couple of times for big injuries which involved stapling and a boot and another time bandages which needed changing every 2-3 days it was really hard keeping it dry.

However the healing time between that and when we just left it alone wasn't really any different.

We just didn't walk him and tried to keep it dry and clean which was easier when we handled it at home as we just dried the paw after he had been out to toilet and used an inflatable cone to stop him licking it.

Sorry I keep posting then remembering things.

The first week is the hardest as the pink skin is sore and exposed. When it starts to go black then we didn't worry as much about keeping it totally dry but making sure he didn't run a lot so as not to open it up again.

Purs took ages but was quite a deep wound from barbed wire on the ground. I think in all it was about 6 weeks until we could leave the bandage off. Boots didn't work well generally but we did use one when out. Trial and error finding the best one. No off lead runs, which was hard. We changed the bandage and dressing a lot because it kept getting wet.

So frustrating as it's horrible seeing her not getting her usual walks 🙁 Spoke to a vet (virtual consultation) and they said to keep it unbandaged to let the air in and cone/collar to prevent her licking at it. Really hope it heals up soon. Thanks for the replies

Oh I thought that was a medication. Never heard of it. Will give it a google and might make a switch. Thank you
