Day 10 of a very bored sad looking dog (she's had kongs, licki mats, and on lead scatter feed etc but she really misses long country walks and running free)

I am hoping that post day 14 we can return to normal, but can we when her normal is running and being a high energy dog?

Was it laparoscopy? My dog was back on lead walking after a couple of days and then back to running about about a week later. But it was a laparoscopy so quicker healing. She had tiny, tiny scars.

Not laparoscopy unfortunately- wish I had considered that now. I could have asked to be referred to the vet hospital where I am sure they would do this

This is her scar - healing well but quite extensive

My dog recently had an emergency spay and we started light exercise after 14 days and then started to build up after 21 days. Vet reviewed her at day 7 and 14 and gave us the go ahead at the last appointment to start introducing exercise.

Ah, so no off lead by day 14 then. Looks like lead walks only for another week

She had a couple of lead walks and then we let her off but she only runs around if she has her ball so she was fine to be off as she stays quite close. If she had been likely to run I would've kept her on. Her spay was emergency though so they did say the recovery can be abit longer hence why she had frequent check ups

Grrrr - I am so pissed off that I didn't think about laparoscopy and that my vet didn't suggest it (knowing how high energy she is). We've had to resort to drugging her with trazadone!!

Did she get pyometra?

Lots of vets don't offer laproscopic spays so don't advise about them either. I had to do all my own research.

Once the stitches are out I usually let mine off lead. But they are not complete nutters.

I would start the walk on lead and then when some energy has been used up let her off lead for a short time then back on lead and build up off lead time.

Yes but I think my vets should have suggested referral given that she is high energy to the extent we have to drug her, and she lives with 3 other dogs. They have referred me to the local specialist hospital before (for chemo) and have established referral patterns with them. I think I am going to complain

Good plan

Did she get pyometra?

Yes she did. She was due to be spayed but then came into season on the operating table so they said they couldn't do it and then she got pyometra after that season. I am so grateful that I knew the signs and got her straight to the vet, they said another day or so and she may not have made it.

Scary time, I'm glad she is on the road to recovery
