For the last 24 hours, on 3 or 4 occasions, has passed a normal firm stool immediately folllowed by very loose stool. Still eating, drinking, playing and running round as normal.
is this a vet this morning job, or watch and wait?
Sorryvif it’s a daft question, it’s been 15 years since I had a pup this small!
Thanks

How small is small pup?

iamme21 · 01/11/2022 06:33

Sorry, didn’t proof read my post!

I wouldn’t worry. The firm stool is what has been sat in the rectum, and the loose stool is from higher up.

Frenchfancy · 01/11/2022 06:37

Doesn't sound worrying to me. Eating, drinking and playing normally.

iamme21 · 01/11/2022 08:37

Thanks! He’s just eaten breakfast and played fetch for 10 minutes!
I’ll see how things are today.

You could get a tube of Pro Kolin from the pet shop/Amazon. I'm never without a tube when I have a puppy. It's a pro biotic/pre biotic that firms up poos, it normally sorts pups out within 48 hours.

@BeansOnToast32 That’s really helpful, thanks. I’ll order one from Amazon now.

Sounds very normal to me but if you're worried it won't hurt to call the vet anyway just to put your mind at ease ☺️

iamme21 · 01/11/2022 09:46

Thanks for those saying all sounds normal. I have ordered the probiotic paste and that is coming today. I’ll give that a go and see if it helps.

Are you over feeding? Our sprocker puppy often had loose stools after firm ones and the vet said it was too much food! Seconding the Pro kolin paste, I'm never without one as it's a lot more expensive from the Vet and is always worth trying first with upset tummies.

redredredredlorry · 01/11/2022 10:03

That's completely standard for my dog. A firm one at the very start of the walk then a softer one 5 minutes or so later.

iamme21 · 01/11/2022 11:48

@Badger1970 Maybe it is over feeding. He has been really hungry the last few days, think he’s having a growth spurt. Will reduce his feeds and see if that helps.

My terrier was the same, used to tell him he was allowed to "brew it" for longer. He never listened though 😂
