Doggy DNA test

Has anyone done a dog DNA test?

If so which company did you use?

Iv found one called Embark | Dog DNA Test | Breed & Health Kit | Breed Identification & Canine Genetic Health Screening which looks ok but I wondered if anyone had any recommendations?

We used embark. DP is an obsessive researcher about these kinds of things so I’m pretty sure it would be good quality.

We have recently used Wisdom on a rescue. 12 breeds were found. Wisdom and Embark seem the 2 most.popular companies to use.

We used Wisdom for our rescue dog. They declared him a mega mutt as his DNA was so mixed and 75% of it couldn’t be identified 😁which was more than fine as they automatically refund the cost of the test when this happens!

So I was impressed with the honesty of the company as they could easily have made it up and I would have been none the wiser. The 25% they did identify seemed very accurate judging by his characteristics and general temperament.

I used wisdom for my French born mini poodle mix. She was a result of an accident and they didn't know who the father was. The DNA test came back 50/50 mini poodle and Welsh terrier. Now we know, yes it makes sense she has the colouring and look of each.
Turns out the bakers dog is the father!
The French owner was going to kill all the puppies but luckily my friend fostered mum and puppies for a few weeks and found them all homes.

Wisdom Panel for our 3 rescues, adopted separately. We got the Essential basic test, which showed breeds, many health traits, physical traits and relatives. We discovered our latest boy had a full brother on the system. It was a big shock to discover it is our other boy! They are 15 months apart, but don't look alike, so wasn't obvious.

That’s amazing @hedgehoglurker! Presumably they came from the same shelter?

We used Wisdom for our mutt and discovered he is 50% Border Collie, which figures. He is smaller than a BC, short haired and ginger so doesn’t particularly look like one, but he was very into trying to herd the children when he first came to live with us, and repeatedly fetching a tennis ball is his life’s work. The other 50% is comprised of Jack Russell, Corgi, Bichon Frise and then loads of other unidentifiable stuff.

Sounds like my DCousin's DDog who loves to herd the DC, play ball and will literally walk for hours Halloween Wink
