Toilet training

Adopted my second rescue a week ago - he’s a young adult, been a stray so no training of any kind. Doing well and settling in, but not toilet trained so (understandably) going in the house on occasion. We are taking him out regularly and he trots around the garden for however long we have him out there, then goes in the house. My other dogs didn’t do this, so wondering if other have any hints or tips please dog parents? Happy to keep at it, but don’t want any bad habits forming.

Only take him out on a lead so he’s focused and use a cue word - ours was an older pup and totally untrained when we got him from Battersea .

Keep him on a lead outside so he can't get distracted, and then leave the lead on in the house so he can't wander off and toilet - every time you see him sniffing, circling etc. he needs to go straight out, as well as after meals, drinks, play, sleep etc, and every 30 minutes or so while awake too.
