Claiming on insurance

Hi, my dog is insured with pet plan and has been for the last nearly 15 years. We have been lucky and never had to claim really until recently. She's had some liver and incontinence issues and is now on long term medication. My question is if I claim for these will this affect her premiums when I renew? We have lifetime cover. I understand the premium may increase due to the liver problem. Thank you.

I’ve used PetPlan for years and they never increase premiums due to claims. They tend to go up a small amount each year, as the dog gets older. It’s one of the reasons I stick with them as an insurer.

We recently had a dog that had a serious illness, involving tens of thousands of pounds worth of treatment and his premiums still didn’t increase any more than previously.

We had a large claim with Petplan last year for ddog and while it did go up it was only a couple of £ per month

I've been with them for years and went through a period of claiming for stomach issues.

The premium did go up each year but not in relation to the number of claims I made.

Isn't it written on their terms and conditions that your premium won't increase because you claim?

Having said that I'm still paying a small fortune for my dog's insurance so I'm not sure what difference it makes whether they increase it because you claim or increase it routinely every year.

No thankfully PetPlan don't penalise for claims made it just effects the overall premium calculations for breed/location and get a year to put all the costs through so all small costs can go on once above excess. I've used up nearly full £ pot cover the past couple of years on my oldie and it's risen about 18% each renewal.

Petplan don’t increase directly related to individual claims - but it does of course favor into their overall premium rates

I have found Petplan to be excellent -
claims paid within days of my vets putting in
