How does your puppy travel in car?

We brought our cavelier puppy home in a cat carrier and he’s been travelling in it in the front footwell since, he’s now 15 weeks and getting a bit big for it. We have two high back booster child car seats in the back but at a push he could go on a car harness in between them, I worry something in the boot wouldn’t be secure and take over all the boot space. But don’t know what’s the best/safest to do. Any tips please?

Crate either metal type or fabric one

Fabric crate in the boot.

We have him in a harness thats clips into the seat belt, but if you have 2 child seats I would say there wouldnt be enough room. By law your dog needs to be restrained! I would think he needs to be in the boot, maybe in a crate?.... obviously depends on the size of your car.

I have a mini schnauzer & she used to travel in an enclosed puppy carrier in the back seat - she was harnessed into it as well. Now shes grown a bit more I use a dog strap/harness that clicks into one of our seatbelts & she sits in the back seat. A crate in our boot wasnt practical for us, she is restrained this way & if I should need to get her out if the car quickly for any reason is easily accessible.
No kids here by the way so a bit easier for space.

We had a crate in our boot, now he is a bit older and settled he has an attachment for the seat belt and he sits in the seats

Metal crate in the boot. No kids so I can have a sloping hatchback double crate in my car which fits two dogs in with a divider between them but I have seen a people with crates which are half the width and still leave you with some boot room. Not the best photo but you could imagine how a smaller one might work 😊

In the boot with the dog guard up with her best mate!

Harness and seatbelt attachment on the back seats. But I wouldn't put a puppy on the back seat in between two children/child seats - I think that's a recipe for disaster.

Thank you! I was hoping the back seat could work but sounds like the boot is my friend. Are they attached on to something to keep secure?
