Best shampoo for itchy dog

I have a 6 yr old border collie who’s always been prone to sensitive skin and stomach. Ive been managing it for years until about a month ago when he started scratching and hasn’t stopped. We’ve ruled out fleas/mites etc and his diet hasn’t changed, but the scratching is constant and worse at night. I’m currently giving him Piriton at bedtime on the vets advice, but they want to start him on apoquel. Looking at other threads I’m going to do an allergy test on him, but I also want to give him a bath to relieve the itch (and remove the doggy smell he’s developed). Any recommendations would be great. Thanks

Have a look at www.stinky-stuff.co.uk/

I’d try a puppy shampoo as it will be gentle.
Has there been any change in the contents of his food ? Might be worth asking the manufacturer.
Could he be allergic to the current environment, there’s lots of fungus about.

Our vet gave us Allermyl shampoo. It's apparently innovative and she really recommended it. Our dog is on Apoquel too, mostly for itchy ears but the vet found he had dry skin too.

We haven't actually used the shampoo yet though, as we think the dry skin was more a result of a stint of daily baths due to repeated fox poo rolling. The vet charged £23 for the Allermyl, but I think it's about £15 elsewhere.

Poor baby Sad I have an itchy boy, too. We use Dirty Beastie shampoo on him.

My dog is itchy and has allergies. Once her diet is right, she is much better but it flares from time to time.
I've found Cooper and Gracie shampoo is good but I try not to shampoo her too often, just her paws when she is licking them excessively.

Thanks for the suggestions. I’ve ordered some cooper and Gracie shampoo, hopefully that will help. If not I’ll try puppy shampoo. And I’ve messaged his food manufacturer to see if they’ve changed anything.

Mine is currently on Apoquel at the moment, nothing else has helped. Took chicken and anything potentially grain related away, bathed him in anti itch stuff. Even did baths with oatmeal and bicarb like for chicken poxy kids.

The Apoquel has totally solved it. If he needs it longer term I will get online instead of from vet and claim on insurance I think. Height also need an equafleece summer suit as we think it may be grass or pollen type allergy

Honestly...give Apoquel a go. If he is allergic and sensitive shampoos do very little to help!
Mine has seasonal allergies... starts itching in spring every year, and again in Autumn... we assume it's pollens as she loves to rampage through the fields.

Apoquel transformed my girl..within 24hrs she stopped itching! Even better is the Cytopoint injection... miracle! We switched to that as even more effective, and she only needs two in spring and we haven't needed another this autumn. We tried various shampoos but if he's itching all night (as my girl was) it's not really fair to just do that.. you want to go with the actual proven treatments!
