Recommend me a floor cleaner

We've recently got a puppy, and as the weather is getting worse, I'm wondering how we're going to manage the muddy paws/general detritus from the garden. I don't think our current hoover/mop combo is going to continue to be very practical, so can anyone recommend a floor cleaner that works well on wooden floors please? Ideally I don't really want a whole new hoover, as ours is fine, but something that would do a quick sweep/clean up mess from muddy paws would be great (if such a thing exists). Thank you!

Get an extra ling mat for the door and teach your dog to sit and stay until told otherwise. My dogs also got used to me wiping their paws on that mat but if I had to do it again, I would teach them to wipe their paws themselves

*long not ling !

As above, and get a pair of towelling dog drying mitts and teach pup to sit and wait on a mat to get the worst off. Ruff & Tumble do them but lots of styles out there - we've but several pairs on rotation in the car, kitchen and family houses and washing machine. We wash them in a horse blanket washing bag to save hairs getting into the machine.

A rubber brush is the most effective for sweeping up hair - in fact, despite vacuuming every three days (black lab) I did a rubber brush sweep of the rugs yesterday (hadn't done one for QUITE some time) and was horrified/impressed with how much it picked up.

Honestly, the kit you buy when you have a dog...😆

Teach the dog to wait at the door when they come inside, and get into the routine of cleaning their paws before they're allowed in the rest of the house.

Great tips, thank you!

Addis spray mop is marvellous at swiftly removing footprints.

We have an old towel in a basket by the door and when we come in, the dog waits on the mat while I try to clean and dry his paws. Not always easy as he is a Labrador and the happiest jumpiest dog ever. We call him Mad Dog, hence my username

Second what everyone else has said about training puppo to wait at the door for a clean up - definitely helps! Takes a bit of time but eventually becomes automatic. We keep a towel by the door for this. Drying mitts are awesome too.

For actual cleaning stuff - we have wooden floors and our go-to combo is a silicone broom (this one), as it picks up pet hair and bits way better than a normal broom, plus it's easier to keep dry / clean.

Then we use a spray mop (like this) with a refillable vessel thing that you fill with your floor cleaner of choice. We use diluted Zoflora - it smells great, disinfects, and is pet safe. Or we use any eco floor cleaner - usually tabs that you dissolve into water (i.e. plastic free). The mop bit is attached by velcro and can be tossed in the washing machine when needed.

(Although we still vacuum every morning as flea eggs and stuff can hang around even if doggo gets a monthly flea treatment)
