Lipfold dermatitis - any advice

My 4yo cocker spaniel's mouth area absolutely stinks and has a thin stripe of discoloured black fur on each side of his mouth. I took him to the vet but she couldn't see anything wrong.

However our dog boarder investigated the cause of the smell (obviously a lot better than the vet 🙄) and noticed a sore/broken skin either side of his mouth, where the discoloured fur is. He dribbles into our sofa when he's sleeping, it's a browny/red colour. The sore is actually quite well hidden in his fur, but looks pretty bad.

I've started bathing it every day with warm water - I clean the fur and the broken skin itself. He doesn't show any discomfort whatsoever, even when there's blood on the cloth.

Google tells me this is most likely to be lipfold dermatitis. Does anybody have any experience of this? How did you get rid of it? He has a vet's appointment next week for his ongoing ear infection, but wanted to start doing something before then if I can.

Lip gol dermatitis needs prompt treatment with antibiotics as it has the potential to cause serious complications due to the risk of bacteria crossing into the blood in the mucosa of the mouth.
