Hi all- what the hell is going on here?
My cocker spaniel could have pooped this, or barfed I guess...it literally looks like a large pile of maggots 😩

It could of course, be nothing to do with ddog, but she is the likely culprit 🤢

Could it be maggots that have hatched on top an old poop?

opalescent · 20/09/2022 15:29

I think it's unlikely- we are pretty hot on picking up poop. It can't have been there more than a couple of hours?

Is it definitely maggots? Could it be tapeworm eggs or segments? Is your dog up to date with their worming meds?

Or have they been scavenging? Could they have eaten something maggotty and then vomited it up?

SquishyGloopyBum · 20/09/2022 15:42

Worms? Worth a tablet for them just in case.

opalescent · 20/09/2022 15:45

Thanks all. She is actually slightly overdue works meds- just given the tablets now; will they kill any existing worms? It's veloxa.

my dog did this and I was horrified! Quick trip for worm tablets.
Had to laugh when I saw the sneaky bugger had somehow got the lid off the tub of dried mealworms and scoffed a load.

Happenchance · 20/09/2022 15:53

How big are they? Has he been hanging around with any anglers or reptile keepers?!

Reasonably big! Not tiny little threads or anything. Why do you ask?

If they're bigger than maggots they could be mealworms or a different type of bait or reptile food. It's hard to tell from the photo. I'd keep some in case you need to take him to the vet, though I'm sure he'll be fine.

Were they dead or alive?
