Tractive trackers

Does anyone use these? Are they worth it?

have a rescue we are slowly allowing off lead, recall is really good but we worry in case something frightens him and he disappears off (I like overthink and aware this is unlikely)

tldr are tracktive trackers any good?

Used one for a while and it was really good. Don’t need it now as dog never runs off anymore.

We spend hours walking in the fields and off lead... generally she's pretty good and while she loves to chase squirrels and rabbits (no kill instinct just likes to run) if she sees a deer I can't trust her and sometimes can't get her on lead fast enough. She once disappeared after a deer when out with my poor dogwalker and didn't return for 30 mins (reappeared by the walker's car, a mile from where she had run off, and looking very pleased with herself... meanwhile the dogwalker was frantic!)

She's worn a tractive tracker ever since! They are really good and if your dog does get spooked and runs off, hit live mode and you can see exactly where they are going!

I find you need to go into the app regularly- they can be a bit funny mine sometimes stops working- it once stopped for 2 weeks and it does send you any errror messages- so if I had lost my dog then I would’ve been in trouble. I then have to contact tractiv and they send you some reset instructions.
otherwise it’s pretty good. Pitpat have just launched a gps version which if it doesn’t have the reliability problems I might switch to.

If you’re walking in an area with poor mobile reception to your phone, or your dog disappears into woods where the tracker unit won’t get a signal out, you just have to bite your nails and hope for the best. I gave up on Tractive. Depends on your area/circumstances.

Had similar experience to @StillMedusa involving deer and a very long absence. Dog now wears one off lead in new places and from now til end of shooting season whilst there's a million pheasants to run off after!
