Thank you to all those who replied to my previous post.
Kaia/Kaya was the most popular choice, however I have had to eliminate it for personal reasons. At the time I posted, I had forgotten that many years ago when I lived in Japan I had wanted to use Kaya as my daughter’s name. My MIL nixed it; it was, combined with our surname, an “unlucky” kanji stroke count according to her. We ended up opting for the ubiquitous (well, in Japan) Kana with my MIL’s choice of kanji. Ironically, ten days later my daughter passed away…It seems my love/hate relationship with Kaya is likely the reason I have been hopelessly mired in name-limbo. Its various spellings only complicate this choice so I have moved on…
Here is my refreshed list:
Aubrey: "elf ruler"
Aurelia -> call name = Auri/ Aurie; Latin, "the golden one"
Ava = Hebrew, Latin or Germanic "life; bird; water, island"
Evie = Diminutive of Eva/Eve "life"
Leal = "loyal"
Orly = Irish, "golden princess" + the airport in France
Octavia -> call name = Tavi; Latin, "eighth"
Vivi = "life"
Xanthe = Greek, "golden, yellow"
Zenobia = Greek "force of Zeus"→ call name = Zen in the hope that as she ages she acquires a calmer perspective.
P.S. She is a young, Anatolian Shepherd x Pyrenees cross who likes to swim!
