Puppy has a swelling in snout and off food/quiet etc

Have attached a pic if anyone can see but I noticed when I tried to offer a treat early in our walk. She refused this and was very very quiet so brought her home.

Can look at teeth on the other side and she helps the swollen side and keeps licking up at it.

Tooth? Insect bite? Little scratch at puppy class last night?

Assuming I need the vet!

Poor little pup! Could she have a bee sting? I've seen lots of swollen snout pics resulting from that.

She's a gorgeous little thing. Hope she feels bettter soon.

Leafy3 · 07/09/2022 07:35

Oh bless her.

Yes, vets.

They'll make her comfortable and give her something to reduce the pain and swelling. They'll also check to make sure she hasn't inhaled anything or have anything stuck.

She's very beautiful!

Hotandbothereds · 07/09/2022 07:37

Oh bless, she looks really sad :( I’d guess a bee or wasp sting, get her to the vets.

Nugg · 07/09/2022 08:05

I wondered if even a mossie bite as she went out to the loo in the dark when we got home from the class. She's so so sore for herself awww sleepy and cuddly won't even lick soft cheese off my finger. Booked a video call for 830 and we shall take it from there! Thanks all. They're like our babies aren't they!

Has she had an antihistamine? I do that as a starting point. If it goes down, great. Insect bite/sting.

It can be grass seeds embedded in the gum, if she eats grass.
Or an infected tooth.

Poor baby!

Nugg · 07/09/2022 08:24

I did wonder I only have cetirizine but she won't take anything. I usually give her working stuff etc in a tiny bit of cream cheese but she won't even open her mouth today

I have to check which one they can have, every time. I don't think it's cetirizine because that's easy to get. I have some I bought specially.

I think it's in some piriton, but not others.

What a shame.

picklemewalnuts · 07/09/2022 08:27

Ask the vet what antihistamine she's allowed, and the dose- it's a really useful thing to know for future reference!

Crazycatstory · 07/09/2022 08:28

Could be a sting, or she’s maybe got a long grass seed up there that’s stuck and causing inflammation. Hopefully the vet will find something nice and easy to sort out. She’s absolutely gorgeous by the way, bless her.

Nugg · 07/09/2022 09:39

Thank you all! Cetirizine is fine 1mg/kg so she can have 5mg as she was 4.8 kg 2 weeks ago. She's managed to lick cream cheese off my finger and some squished chicken so I slid the broken up pill into that and she is fast off again.

So sorry for herself poor baby! Vet said don't baby her, puppies are drama queens 😂

If no change then face to face appointment later on! Think she must've been stung when she went for her morning toilet!

Hope she feels better soon 🐾

Oh gosh! Mean vet! Of course you must baby her!! Sappy puppy mother here sorry.

Would they say that if they were a pediatrician? Shock

Nugg · 07/09/2022 14:13

I said I'm sure she's going to milk it but she's my baby and I don't care. She was laughing and said most older dogs would sulk a bit but puppies are like "OMG I'm gonna die" 🤣🤣

Poor lamb ended up with a steroid injection and the vet needing a physical exam. She sounded like a squealing piglet 😢

Oh no!

To be fair, I said that to SiL about babies. She had her first and worried about the crying. I reassured her that it might sound dramatic but was the same whether it was a pin in the nappy, or doing a poo.
