I’m looking into getting a dog but it must be a big dog. I want a big safe friendly breed. Something with enough energy to go on a 4 hour walk but not so much energy that it can’t settle after a 1 hour walk (long walks will be weekends).

I want something that can be let off lead (with training!) in the woods/on the beach so no greyhound types.

I don’t care about hair, I love grooming.

what breed would you recommend?

How about a Samoyed? They’re gorgeous and known as the “smiling assassins”

I have a Sammy pup - not heard of smiling assassin lol 😆

Even GR working lines are pretty chilled, and are very sweet-natured.

Working GR's are very drivey dogs and the gene pool is incredibly small, particularly in Scotland so that is something to consider. Ours is a lovely lovely girl but not your typical cuddly, sensitive retriever. She is constantly working and is very independent, when she was younger we gave her far too much freedom so she is a bit of a menace still but calming down and getting the gist of her training now at the age of 2! It's something to consider when getting a working line lab, retriever or spaniel, some of them aren't suited to pet homes.
