Biscuit app?

My friend has just sent me this app where you walk your dog, it tracks your progress and you get vouchers. Is it legit? Has anyone tried it? From what she said it seems to good to be true?

Yes it is great. Really easy, you tell it about your dog and it gives you a target amount for your walks. When you hit the target you get points that you swop for vouchers. They have all sorts, I use Just Eat to pay for our weekly friday night takeaway, but they have Tesco and Nandos that I would also use. It only tracks on your phone though- so you cant see how far your dog has actually been though. it is legit tho.

I’ve just used it in our after school walk! I’m almost at a voucher already! How did I not know about this

The maximum number of biscuits you can earn on a daily or weekly basis is very limited and cannot be changed, so it will take quite a while to earn rewards.

BippityBobbityBoo · 21/06/2023 10:07

Can anyone explain how this works please? How does it track? It just seems too easy to cheat it, not that I would!

mutleyschuckle · 21/06/2023 21:40

I've been using it for about a year & had approx £120 in supermarket vouchers over that time. As long as I remember to start it before a walk they add up quick. Had a few issues with it sometimes not syncing & saving at the end but that's rare & although annoying you've lost that walks "biscuits" I think it's been worth it for I've had from it.

Sounds really weird. Is it vouchers in exchange for personal data?

Yes, exactly that. It will be tracking you and selling your data. Nothing is free in this world, so they have to make money somehow.

Pubgardener · 22/06/2023 08:19

most sites that people use (Facebook, instagram etc) are in exchange for personal data. In those cases though all you get is access to their product whereas biscuit actually gives you cash vouchers. Is that what frightens people? That it is too overt compared to handing over data to Facebook and Google?

IngGenius · 22/06/2023 08:25

Biscuits do ask very specific personal data.

Not sure why but I dont want to hand over the Microchip number of my dogs and the insurance policy number.

ifthe · 22/06/2023 09:23

They only ask for your insurance number though if you are an Animal Friends customer and it automatically checks it against their database because they are the same company!! And you don't have to add it if you don't want to- the only thing you get is cheaper vouchers presumably because they can link your health information back to the policy. But you can join up with out. I joined following the invite from Animal Friends, linked my policy and then deleted and rejoined as a general member and no insurance details are asked for.

Microchip I think they ask for that just to stop people cheating, I cant see that it has any other use? I've given out my horses number without thought over the years- can you do anything with it? I am a bit worried I should've been more careful with that?

Unluckycat1 · 22/06/2023 09:55

@Pubgardener I'm aware that data harvesting is unavoidable, but that doesn't mean I would choose to hand my personal information over quite so willingly. Why do they (whoever they are) want to know when, where and for how long we walk our dogs 😬

TwinkleTwinkleLittleCat · 23/06/2023 20:06

I use it. It asks for microchip number yo prove you have a dog and any flea/worm treatment used. They change the vouchers every so often.

NoWordForFluffy · 23/06/2023 20:08

They've recently cut the bonus points for meeting your weekly target and, at the same time, increased the number of biscuits you need to get a voucher. It's annoyed me a bit (though I know they can change their terms whenever they like!).

BraveMaeve · 23/06/2023 20:17

The idea is that by rewarding you, you will make your dog more healthy and will be less likely to claim on your Animal Friends pet insurance policy (if you have one). A similar approach is taken in private medical insurance for humans - obviously they're thinking about their bottom line but the outcome is mutually beneficial.

I think you're right to consider what they'll do with the data, but Financial Services is so hot on this.

hollidge123 · 23/06/2023 20:36

Before I was able to view higher item vouchers like £30 M&S voucher or £20 Amazon. Are these still available? Since the voucher update I can’t see them. Wondering if it’s because I only have 950 points. Sadly the amount of points needed has increased by 250 for a lot of the vouchers since the change.

BigBundleOfFluff · 23/06/2023 21:11

I think I might join this. Does anyone have an "add me" type code I could use?

What sort of targets does it give you?
Miles, minutes?

Minutes.

I do 3 x 60 minutes a week.
You can add your flea, worm treatments and vaccinations for extra biscuits.

I did it last year and got £160 Amazon vouchers for Christmas shopping. Not bad considering I'm walking anyway
