Wasp sting on dog’s testicles

My poor dog inadvertently ran into a patch of grass that had a swarm of wasps! I ran in after seeing him dash about in circles and got him away. He was limping and so I brought him home and gave him an antihistamine as I wasn’t sure if he had been stung. He’s now behind the couch crying and came out and laid down and lifted his back leg. I examined foot and leg and couldn’t feel any lump from a sting. He went into the kitchen and began nibbling his back paw and so I soaked it in saline just to be on sage side. He has quite big testicles so I went to pad the testicles with the cotton pad and he jumped out of his skin (water isn’t cold!). Both times I’ve tried to check his balls he is very reactive so I don’t want to push it but what do you advise if he has taken a stinger to his jewels? They don’t look swollen and they don’t feel hot. Do I just leave it until morning and see how he is?

Well I think my own balls have shot up inside
my abdomen.

Dogs can have antihistamines (citerizine), but wasp stings can be very painful, do you have any metacam?

RosiePosie27 · 06/08/2022 18:38

sorry, is Metacam a cream? I haven’t got anything else other than Sudocrem / other creams in the medicine cabinet. He sat down VERY gingerly a minute ago and is now behind the couch crying again. He let me have a look and I can’t say they look redder than normal (not that I ever have a good look at them!). Just feel awful that he’s in discomfort. I’ve given him Piritoneze or whatever it’s called.

Metacam is oral pain relief. If you don’t have pain relief I would personally take him to the vets to get some.

Gah, I’ll see if I can get hold of some tomorrow. He’s stopped crying now and I’ve also noticed his ear is swollen (and possible tender) so he must have taken a sting there too! Poor chap!!

I would call your vet for advice. They can recommend dosage for a painkiller you may have at home. But you need to be sure that your dog doesn’t need emergency treatment.

Dogs can have paracetamol but you'll need to ring the vet to figure out the right dosage.

Thanks - I’ve called the vet and we can
monitor at home. I’ve found the area he was stung (made him jump!). Vet said he can have 1 x paracetamol so will try and get him some normal no caffeine ones. Poor lad!

How is he doing today?
