Thank you, I’ll try those. My DC are very excited when we go outside and they distract her so she forgets to go. I know it was only day 1, but I feel it’s been a bit of a failure as she’s got into the habit of weeing inside despite me staring at her almost constantly for 15 hours!

mizzblizz · 15/08/2022 21:41

@Foxgloveleaf Don't be disheartened. My DC were also a huge distraction and on day 1 and day 2 I was wondering how we would ever flip the behaviour and teach her to go outside instead of inside, but with perseverance and patience it will start to come together

GuyFawkesDay · 15/08/2022 22:21

@Nugg is yours working or show type?

We've found ours hasn't needed stripping, he has a scissor trim of his floofy bits (top of legs, chest and his tail 'flag' done.

This is him post groom , he's far fluffier at the moment

@GuyFawkesDay he's so handsome ❤️

She's show type, her mum was sooo long and curly haired despite a groom pre-birth!

Foxgloveleaf · 15/08/2022 22:26

Thank you for the words of encouragement. It has helped me a lot. The responsibility of raising a puppy is weighing heavy on my mind.

We’ve ended the day on a high, managed a wee outside after going in and out a few times. Then she took herself to bed and fell asleep.

GuyFawkesDay · 15/08/2022 22:26

Ahh then you might need to find stripping

I know my friend with SCS ended up getting hers clipped as he kept getting matted under armpits and ears no matter what she did.

He's still gorgeous (here his is with mine, they're besties) you can see how huge mine is too!!!

@GuyFawkesDay oh look at those gorgeous happy faces!! My daughters SCS is the same! Hates being bushed at home too so I'm trying to do a little daily and have got her booked in a couple of weeks for a puppy pamper to get her used to going!
I won't really know til she's much older what her coat will be like I guess - well other than filthy most of the time 😂

GuyFawkesDay · 16/08/2022 08:02

Have to admit a black on is blessing and curse cos he doesn't show the dirt up too badly, until you wash him!!!! He's a right mucky monster, typical spaniel. Always in the shrubbery, ditches and puddles.

Aria20 · 16/08/2022 09:23

@GuyFawkesDay agree it shows up less until you bath them and the water turns brown!

Hello all. Just come home with 8 week old Bedlington Whippet. Vaccinations next week. Does anyone know when/ if I can carry her out on walks??

Your vet will advise you. We were told two weeks from last vaccines but we are in NI and there is more parvo is so they are more cautious. They might be more relaxed where you are.

We've been carrying our pup out on walks every day since we brought her home at 8 weeks old. As long as you're not putting them on the ground then it's fine.
We have been told we can walk her on the ground one week after her second vaccinations x

Nugg · 16/08/2022 12:38

@mizzblizz similar here. She goes out to see other people and hear noises etc as my street is quite quiet. Walks one week tomorrow after final vaccination!

We can start walks one week tomorrow too! I can't wait for that. Hoping it will help us to settle into something that resembles a routine Grin

How are the fellow drought pups coping with the rain? FoxPup wouldn’t wee or poo outside through the night and ended up going on the kitchen floor.

she was up twice in the night. Is that standard at 9 weeks?

Mine is perplexed by the rain but still going outside - how about us drought puppy parents 😂 T-shirt and flip flops has been my house-training wear so far - sorry neighbours 🤪 had to dig out my waterproof coat!

DMCWelshcakes · 17/08/2022 09:30

Morning hoomins and puppers.

Odd question, but did anyone else struggle to get their puppy to work out what to do on a walk?

DiddyDoggo is absolutely fine with his collar, harness and lead and isn't scared of stuff that we've encountered so far, but he's just not very good at walking. He just sits down and looks around him happily.

What age do they get the hang of it?

ilovesushi · 17/08/2022 09:31

@FuckingHateRats sounds like you have a brilliant system going! I wish we had done more off lead practice from the start as most of our walks are woodland/ heath/ beach and more suited to off lead. I was far too cautious initially. I was so worried about her running off or being a nuisance to other dogs and not coming when told but I've realised most people are tolerant of a young puppy and their new owners learning the ropes. I've not really mastered the walking straight past other dogs and usually slip her back on the lead. Something I need to work on!

ilovesushi · 17/08/2022 09:38

@DMCWelshcakes we had the opposite problem, she was like a helium balloon on a string bobbing up and down and around with no concept of going forwards on the ground in a straight line. I don't know what you do if they aren't interested in moving at all but maybe it's the heat!?

tizwozliz · 17/08/2022 10:20

Are you trying to walk from home @DMCWelshcakes ?

Pup wouldn't walk from home when she was little, so we either went places in the car or carried her down the road a bit.

Oh, I'd also say just sitting down and observing the world calmly isn't really a bad thing. When they're small, it can be just as exhausting as a walk for them. When they're small and walk distances more limited I visited places like National Trust where we could do a short walk and pup could people watch whilst I had coffee and cake :-)

Oh, and for anyone who was looking at food storage, I saw these when I was doing a food order yesterday. Hold 12.5kg, definitely the cheapest I've seen.

Morning pups and peeps!

How did all the dogs get on with the storms?

FawkesPup is now getting v fed up of the cone and suit is ok til he pees on it. 2 more days to go! He's also waking early again, I am assuming because he's not getting enough exercise so is just full of beans!!! I am going to do some placeboard work in the park later on his long line. Done Kong wobble breakfast, holee ball with a bonio stuffed in and sprats in the snake so far today. He needs more mental enrichment and the challenge of training outside but no ball chasing allowed yet so it'll be placeboard and treats and maybe some close up whistle work on stop/turn commands and stay. Try and first him out that way!!!

Roll on Friday!!!!

tizwozliz · 17/08/2022 11:27

The finish position (i.e. dog sat alongside you) and pivoting (quarter turns clockwise and counter clockwise) are good low activity things to practice.

GuyFawkesDay · 17/08/2022 11:35

Yep, that's the plan. And work on his coming back to front as his delivery/drop is shocking. He abandons dummies etc about 6 feet away and comes back all "here I am!" the dozy dog!

Aria20 · 17/08/2022 13:04

@tizwozliz that's a great price. I did order something from Amazon that's supposed to come tomorrow but if it's no good I might return it and get that one!
