@MrsWhites Oo! Exciting!
We pick our pup up today too.
We've had a nightmare with jabs as the pups had his first one but not one of our local vets do the same one for the second jab so we'd have to drive an hour and a half back to the original vet!
Needless to say dh is now very well acquainted with all the local vets having spent the day ringing round and has found one that will do a compatible jab.

My friend uses vetsforpets and absolutely swears by them. We've only not gone there because they're not local.

Enjoy your pup!

We just had a flea and worm plan with vets for pets and we went in monthly for that until around 8 months and got weighed and a quick look over. The complete care plan didn't seem worth the extra for us (I'm pretty sure it didn't include boosters and it included initial vaccinations and chipping which we didn't need).

@Rowgtfc72 oh good luck picking your pup up today too. Good luck with the vets, that sounds like a bit of a nightmare. We are quite lucky that our breeder decided to keep pups until they had both vaccines. A friend of ours is really struggling to sort out vaccinations too!

@tizwozliz I’ve been thinking the same because we don’t need initial vaccinations and microchipping too, does the flea and worm subscription include weight checks then if I just sign up for that instead of are you paying separately for those?

MrsWhites · 08/10/2022 08:17

Oh I see what you mean now, just had a look online, so the flea and worm plan is £11 rather than £15, might go with this one then instead. Thank you!

tizwozliz · 08/10/2022 08:51

We had appointments with a weigh in until Ada reached 25kg as the flea and worm treatment dosage is weight dependent. Then we could just pick up the treatments. So I think we had 7 months of visits up until she was 9 months. Useful to see someone regularly and get pup used to the vets. Ada loves the vets now as in her mind they're a place where she gets fusses and treats.

I’ve got a 17 week old lab and tbh the biting is so fucking hard. The only thing that works is crate training, when she is overstimulated and bites she goes in her crate. The breed are known biters and it should stop once her adult teeth come
through. Ignoring her doesn’t work, she will quite happily bite and mouth at my hand for an hour

Autumn101 · 08/10/2022 09:29

I use Vets4pets and they’ve been brilliant so far - we have the monthly plan which includes a vet visit and I think 5 nurse visits. We’ve used them all up!

Our friends had that and they had to restart the jabs all over again with there current vet. It was a nightmare for them as they had to wait longer to take them out.

Rowgtfc72 · 08/10/2022 11:04

@HollyJollyXmas57 we were offered that and dh turned it down for the same reason.
New vet says we must register with then to get the jab. Then we have to unregister as we're already registered with our local vet!

Is it a vaccine brand problem or Lepto problem? My pup was vaccinated by the breeder with the old Novibac Lepto 2 vaccine, my vets4pets only does Lepto 4 so she had a Novibac Lepto 4/ DHP at 10wks, by 11weeks she was allowed out for walks because she was covered for by the original 2 Lepto strains and obviously parvo/distemper. She's just turned 14 weeks and had her final Lepto 4 so she's now covered for all 4 strains.

I'm actually glad my breeders vet used Lepto 2 because I was allowed to take her out 2 weeks earlier than I would have been had she have had Lepto 4 at the start.

Saying that, BeanPup hurt her elbow charging round the garden so she's been on crate rest and short on-lead walks since Monday 🙄 which has been fun.
She's a nippy little devil at the min but I can't complain too much, she's been a fantastic little dog in other ways. She's not had 1 accident in the house since 10wks old but she probably had less than 10 before that anyway and she's only every had 1 wee during the night.
She goes and rings the bell on the back door when she needs to go out or if too caught up in playing and hasn't been for a while I say "toilet" and if she need to go she will walk to the door.

Good look to those picking up little pupsters today hope everything goes as smoothly as possible. Smile

BeansOnToast32 · 08/10/2022 12:32

Sorry for the spelling errors 😂

FuckingHateRats · 08/10/2022 13:33

The L2/L4 thing can be such a headache. I went to register our pup before we got her and to book her in for her second jags, only to find that they only did L4. Luckily I was ahead of the game enough to be able to call the breeder and they agreed for their vet to give ours L4 instead of the L2 the rest of the puppies got.

DarkBlueEyes · 08/10/2022 13:53

Hey can I join please? This is Layla. We got her at the end of august. She's a maltipoo and 14 weeks. Toilet training not going all that well!

So this guy is now home with us, kids are driving me insane already following him around 😂 Had quite a few accidents but also a couple of wees in the garden so I’m hoping some of the ones in the house were nerves, will keep going with the taking him outside every 30 min or so.

He’s had both vaccines - Lepto 2, breeder said vets feel Lepto 4 is unnecessary in this country but I’m going to check what our vet thinks when we take him for his flea and worm appointment.

Oh my word beautiful puppies 😍 enjoy them!

MrsWhites · 08/10/2022 16:06

Does anyone have a many pets referral that they want to share so I can use that and get us a £20 Amazon voucher each?

Autumn101 · 08/10/2022 16:16

@MrsWhites I’ll pm you one 👍

Rowgtfc72 · 08/10/2022 17:36

@MrsWhites he's gorgeous!

@DarkBlueEyes awwwww!

Diesel is home. He slept the whole hour and a half home apart from a mad five minutes with a chew toy.

No wees yet, he had a sniff round, checked his crate out and fell asleep on dh. He sleeps a lot but then he is only 7 weeks old.

MrsWhites · 08/10/2022 18:08

@Rowgtfc72 he’s lovely, gorgeous colouring!

We’ve had quite a few accidents but also some success with wees and a few poos outside.

Had a couple of little nips when playing with my 8 year old which has made him a bit wary, so after a bit of a mad 10 minutes when I could see him getting too excited I’ve put him in his crate for a nap, he whined for a minute and then fell fast asleep!

I have noticed though his poo is very soft, think Mr Whippy - wondering if this is just nervous tummy maybe!

BeansOnToast32 · 08/10/2022 18:59

Gorgeous puppies 😍

@MrsWhites pups can quite often get a dodgy tum when they arrive at their new home, think it's nerves/upset in most cases, just keep an eye on it.

Pro Kolin is brilliant in these cases, you can get it from pet shops/Amazon. It's a pro biotic and pre biotic and suitable for puppies. It replaces any of the good gut bacteria lost with runny poos, soothes the stomach lining and firms up poos. I'm never without a tube when I have a puppy because they can get dodgy tums often. Pro kolin usually sorts them out in within 48hours.

Prancingponies · 08/10/2022 19:04

Leif is doing well, toilet training is happening, but my god does he have his bitey landshark moments!

We also bought many, many treats then invested in some JR pate for training.
Sadlywe have found he can't eat it at all, vomits it straight back up again. But Ddog is now having it for his meals so he's happy.

Rowgtfc72 · 08/10/2022 19:43

Two wees in the house but one poo outside.
Think he's settling. He's had his tea, a mad half hour and a nap. Woken up and he's now seeing what he can chew.

Citygirlrurallife · 08/10/2022 21:22

Oh gosh the new puppies are LOVELY!

thanks for the reminder - we only have a week left on free kennel club insurance so I need to get my arse in gear. Big breed dogs are expensive!!

haku had a very busy day - I think because we’ve started taking him on the school run (3 mins walk next door to drop DD then a walk back through the park) he wanted to do the same this am as he didn’t go down for his usual 8:30am nap but did as soon as we’d walked (and he’d had an on leash play with a tiny border terrier who loves big dogs!) then into town which was the busiest it’s been since we’ve taken him as usually we go in the week and I think it must have been very overwhelming but he met all
sorts of people and dogs and made me very proud sitting as soon as somebody said hello - hes going to be a big dog so I’m keen to really train him to sit before he gets to say hello.

we’ve been really lucky (so far) with the biting/non biting so I have no tips but all the sympathy

Rowgtfc72 · 08/10/2022 21:44

Just been checking my pets at home new puppy vouchers and one of them is for £30 off annual puppy check at vets4pets.
Might be worth signing up for.

We got 10% of first shop. Free bag of food. Half price bag of food and other stuff.

Rowgtfc72 · 09/10/2022 07:45

So. Sleep is overated.
Up at 11.30. Then 1.30. Then dh came down and slept on the sofa. I heard pup twice more.
Dh has now gone to bed and dd and me have taken over.
He was in his crate but we left the door open to his playpen so he can pee. Which he did.
Maybe we need to shut the door? Or is it first night in a new home.
We're shattered. Pup is sleeping in his bed!
