Nothing I can do, but need a vent. He was upstairs, nodded off, she’d been napping with him, he’s woke up,and she’s gone, the rotten bastards have got her lead and taken her. He’s in bits (by the by, he’s asd, bad anxiety, lives alone, she was his main companion) Neighbours not seen anything, posted on lost and stolen everywhere, police coming (mainly I suspect as they came in the house)
Shes a whippet, we live in prime coursing country and think that’s where she’s gone. How can anyone be so callous?

How did they get in?

WinterMusings · 03/08/2022 14:38

OMG I'm SO sorry. Fucking bastards. I hope someone spots her & she's returned.

Poor dog, poor DS, poor you.

big hugs & hope she's home soon!!

LadyGrillingSole · 03/08/2022 14:38

I'm so sorry, what is wrong with these people!

I hope someone spots her and she's home to your son soon, safe and sound.

Is he sure she hasn't just escaped? Is that possible from the set up he has? It is a very audacious theft otherwise

mrsjoyfulprizeforraffiawork · 03/08/2022 14:50

If you haven't already, put this on www.doglost.co.uk (it is free) for nationwide coverage and help. When you have a crime number, email it to admin at doglost and they can change "lost" status to "stolen". They have volunteers who liaise with the police on stolen dogs. You can print off posters re dog directly from its entry and it is v important to go out and poster everywhere and tell locals on the streets about it, give them posters too. Not time to be shy about talking to strangers. Have any neighbours cctv that could be helpful? The more you publicise this, the more likely the thieves will dump the dog (too hot to handle as they say on doglost!). Good luck.

You will get advice from doglost and the many, many of us who check it. You will see people do often get their stolen dogs back (some quickly, some weeks or months later and 3 recently after 3 years and 7 years, I think). Make sure chip details are registered up to date with current address.

I just saw a post on Twitter looking for a lovely companion whippet type dog from County Durham.

Don't know if that's yours but if it is word is spreading!

Unless she can clip on her lead I doubt it!
Anyway, a good update, she’s been found at a shop nearby. Dirty, nervous and a few scratches. We suspect he’s been followed home, she’s been stolen to order, then she’s either escaped or they realised she was spayed, and becoming hot, or they’ve tried her for lamping and she wasn’t any good so they released her.
Yes, that was me MsMarvellous. It was amazing how the gc grapevine got the word out.
Nothing else was nicked, just her and her lead.

MsMarvellous · 03/08/2022 19:50

Oh my. I'm so glad she's home!

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 12/08/2022 14:33

Here she is curled up with me. Decided she was too stressed to be left as it’s his first week back at work so she’s with us for the week. I think dh is moving her over by stealth. 😁

I am so glad she's home, she's beautiful.

Leafy3 · 12/08/2022 14:46

Oh god what an awful thing to happen! How traumatising for your son and his lovely dog :(

I hope he can fit intruder alarms / improve his home security, it's terrifying!

So, so pleased though that you have her back safe and unharmed!

StillSmallVoice · 12/08/2022 15:25

She is gorgeous. Just gorgeous. So glad you got her back.
